but he should not be on the floor in the final minute over Buycks.
JR has NO offensive skills, and is even suspect with his ball handling. A couple of quality assists tonight..but he has a LONG way to go.
Junior has absolutely no confidence shooting the ball from the floor or the FT line. It will come with time.
I'll take assists over boned headed shots any day.
It's not good when the tv announcer says, "The ball needs to not be in his hands" about your point guard. I want him to do well, but he made me nervous tonight. Defense looked good and some good passes though.
The announcers were idiots. Cadougan is not needed to score. He distributes the ball.
He had 8 assists, and some disruptive tips.
He is not in there to be a scorer.
Its hard to believe that he is that poor a shot and free throw shooter. Hopefully it is a matter of taking shots with high confidence. That is what made Jimmy Butler so good his first year. He knew when to shoot and when not to.

Agree, one or two points would have been nice though. In a close game he should not be in there. Too much of a liability at the foul line. He just cannot put the ball in the basket from the outside.
What was the Free throw statistic in those final two minutes? That was appalling.
The announcers also stated that Junior was getting less minutes than last year, nice research.

I don't know about the last two minutes, but 20 for 32 for the game? Awful.

6 misses in last two minutes.
It's nice to have Buycks injured/foul trouble/etc. and know Cadougan can more than back him up. The dude knows how to deliver a pass. His offense isn't great right now, but he is basically a freshmen from a playing standpoint.
I do agree that right now I don't know I want him in a game we know we are going to get fouled. I think it was prolly a function of Buycks knee bothering him so Cadougan was by far the best option.

It was bad FT shooting down the stretch..but for the game..63% - not great - however not far off the national average for NCAA Division 1 men's hoops of 68%.
But..in the future...we can't miss 6 FT's in the last 2 minutes of a closer game..it will prove fatal...but..I also don't expect Cadougan to be in the games for those, and Buycks will at least be warm instead of ice cold.
I've got no problem with Cadougan getting more minutes..like Buycks over him though...and how the heck can a chubby pg not shoot ft's at a strong clip?
Also ball needs to go through Crowder's hands every time down the floor.
Blue is not the player i was expecting, has a long way to go. Shot is off.
Team almost didn't seem to want to win down the stretch at the line...need more of a killer instinct.
Jr. has to be able to hit an open shot from the field and especially make free throws. But he is an excellent play-maker, passer. I would think he'll get a lot better offensively scoring-wise.
One thing Cadougan does very well is make his passes on-time. He hit DJO in perfect rhythm a few times tonight and earlier in the season did a great job getting the ball to Gardner in perfect position.
He is literally horrific at shooting the basketball, but he does know how to pass.
Junior stepped up with Buycks hurt. JC needs to hit his free-throws.
Junior had 8 assists and one turnover. The rest of the team had 5 assists and 15 turnovers. He's got no "O" but those aren't bad numbers - especially against a team that causes a lot of turnovers.
That said, right now we're a better team with a healthy Buycks on the floor.

I tell you what, Blue is not much better offensively. he missed his share of free throws and shots from the field.
Boy what a tough crowd. Our senior top point guard who also is scoring double digits is out and our sophomore PG playing in his 7-8th? BE game ever comes out and dishes out 8 Canadian Dimes to only one turnover in a Big East road win and everyone wants to rip him. Nice Group...Junior's time and game will come. Try not to be such freaking jagoffs in the interim.
I agree with Dimes. If you're gonna criticize Junior's play tonight, offense is not the way to go. He ran the team well, in a tough spot. Not sure he's ever played 30 minutes before. Yes, he needs to hit FTs, no doubt. But let's not forget he's basically a frosh this year.
Defensively, he needs to stop doubling down on the post until he figures out how to keep an eye on his man. He got lost a lot against WVU and lost #10 a few times tonight.
Junior's 8 assists was a team season high and is the highest assist game in almost two years since DJ's eight helpers vs. Seton Hall on Feb. 17, 2009.

Considering his conditioning was a big concern coming in to the season, it was nice to see Caddy play that many minutes.
As for his defensive woes on the doubl in the post, he wasn't the only one having trouble. I saw DJO and Jimmy go all in a few times too to their detriment. Im sure this will be a talking point for Buzz over the next few days.
Junior will help us win some games, as he did tonight. I'm glad he's a Warrior.
Yes Junior had a nice game with an 8-1 assist/TO ratio but at the same time, there's no reason for any player to set foot on the court for 30 minutes and not record a single point. With that said, I thought the guys played a great game for the most part and any road win is a great win in the BEast.
With about 4 minutes to go, the graphic flashed that we were 16-22 from the line up to that point. 4-10 down the stretch.

Agree, Ners.
Kind of "unfair" to bring Buycks in cold - i'm not exactly sure when he last was in the game - and ask him to knock down FTs.
That being said, I also absolutely expect him to be in at the end of games.

Yes he does, but I noticed that Buycks missed both of his also in crunch time, and he is a senior.
I cannot believe anyone is giving JC a hard time....he played great...I know Buzz was more than happy with his play. If he was out there jacking up shots I could understand some of the comments..but he didn't. He knows his role, he knows there are better scorers on this team than him and he gets them the ball. JC is a quality person and has worked hard to come back from an injury that if anyone of us got we would still be limping.
I pose this question...does MU win last night if JC is not on the court...I know what my answer is.
Dont' want to sound negative, but... Junior has not shown anything so far. His ball handling seems suspect. Often his dribbling is high and about to lose control; his shooting is awful; he has trouble making layups and free throws. Want to be nice, but, we haven't seen any upside to his game. At best he should be a short time reliever for the other guards.

You won't get any of the Cadougan urinators to answer this no.
Yes, he has faults, but so do all the players. No he is not the best player, but IMO he is our best PG. If he did score 15 points in a game--which is not his role, the detractors would still bitch about his faults.

I'm also proud of Junior's recovery, and I hope to see him continue to improve as a player. He had a good game last night, though it's clear that his offense is behind the much-maligned attacking skills of Blue right now. His passing is good, and he had a few really good assists.
However, if you are asking if we win if Buycks is healthy and plays 29 minutes instead of Junior do we still win, then the answer is an emphatic yes. Anyone stupid enough to think that our eight-point victory would have been even a one-point loss with Buycks out there should probably be put down for their own good. Maybe Buycks doesn't get 8 assists, but I'd bet he would have had at least 5, and the points he would have scored would have made up for that difference. Maybe he would have turned it over once or twice more, but he probably would have also caused one or two more turnovers, and when he did get a steal he wouldn't have had such an ill-advised drive into traffic like Cadougan did.
However, if you mean do we win the game if we are playing 5-on-4 for 29 minutes, or do we win the game if Frozena (our only healthy guard that didn't log significant minutes) is running the point most of the night, then you are probably right.
I think Junior played a terrific game in that situation last night. He was asked to play a lot more minutes, and didn't turn the ball over or take bad shots (what, only like 3 shots or something?) I don't think he's a horrible shooter, it's just that he defers to the alpha dogs on the team: DJO-Butler-Crowder. Seriously, the kid is essentially a freshman. He did what was asked of him. Clearly, Buycks is the starting PG on this team, and Junior got some valuable experience last night in his backup role. That will help us win games.
Finally got to see these guys in person vs. RU - it seemed like no one was taking care of the ball, between out-of-control drives into traffic and lazy passes - it was a surprise to see Jr's numbers (8 to 1) when I got a look at the box score - hard to argue with results like that for a stand-in.
