So obviously we used to have our own tourney, normally three semi-cupcakes that would give us a couple early-season victories. Did we discontinue it because you can only appear in one preseason tournament? I'm trying to remember if we had a B&G the year that D-Wade led us to the Great Alaska title. Odd how the years start to blend... :-[
Anyway, is there a reason we don't have it anymore? Is it because of the losses to Winthrop and North Dakota State? I feel like I should really know the answer to this, but for the life of me, can't remember why ?-(

A number of reasons. One, it was hard to get other teams to come to Milwaukee having to give up 2 games in the process. I can't remember, but I believe it was not listed as a exempted tournament which would mean those schools had to count both games for scheduling and not just one.
The tournament ended a few years ago when Maine backed out at the last minute and MU couldn't find a replacement. The tournament was "temporarily" suspended that year. It has yet to be rekindled despite the temporary suspension. Not surprising as the tournament was an absolute struggle to run in the 1990's, let alone in the 2000's.
I do not remember which team, but someone cancelled late and we could not find a replacement resulting in it being cancelled. MU could find a team with one open date, but it was impossible to find a team with two open dates. Upto that time it was the longest running tournament. Once it was cancelled there was no reason to continue it. Mostly because no one would come to first game that MU was not playing in.

It was Maine and was the third longest running tournament at the time.
