Now im also a gopher fan(team of idiot screw ups but i love em) and there best guard may be available. Now with Reggie gone and an opening for next years team do you guys think Devoe Joseph could be a nice half year fill next year for BE play?
The guy can play PG and stroke it from deep which could go well with Vander, DJO and Junior. He is a Junior this year and if he transfer right now which im hearing is likely(bad for gophers) he would play in December of next year for his senior year, or wait til end of year and play all of 2012(long time for a senior to wait)
If he does the half year transfer I really think he may join his brother Cory in Texas if Cory stays for sophmore year.
I just think hes a guy we could really use to fill a quick void if he becomes availabe. Kid can play.
Seems like he'd be a good fit, can he play the point at all? Even if he can, it might be tough to get minutes in the second half of next year, depending on where Blue and Cadougan are at in the development. Either way, I could see a guard with decent size, scoring, and a nice 3-point touch getting time on this team. Too bad he can't join us for the rest of this year, too.
Yeah if he could play this year hed be a clear guy to go get. Even though its likely he transfers I doubt we even look at him but yes he can play the point. When Nolan is out or not in the game Devoe plays it and basically carried us to the tourney last year. He is great at creating his own shot(something MU could use just like the gophers) from deep, mid range and getting to the hoop.
His senior experience would get him plenty of PT for BE play next year and I just thought he could be good because then hes a senior and it will open up a scholarship for 2012 rather than the opening we have next year with not much on the table.
If Junior still isnt developing alot we could go with alot of 3 guards with Devoe playing PG(with a 3 ball) along side slasher vander and shooter DJO.
This is more just a thought but I brought it up cuz he would definitly help us next year in a year we all expect big things.
ESPN is saying he was suspended for a variety of issues. That doesn't sound good to me.

If he's got no attitude problems. I'm guessing he's got an attitude problem based on Tubby's comments.
Must be a JUCO, getting in trouble like that.
The issues are mostly academic and because of it hes not getting along with Tubby.
So obviously he will have to fix the school problems before any team takes him

But this story is old. He has comeback from this. New reports say he may be out against for a "long period" of time. So its not good that his grades are a recurring problem.
what sources do you have that he may be transfering?
We do not need a transfer unless he is a stud!
willie he is a stud. great shooter. would easily start on this team.
Andy Katz via twitter said Joseph will not play tomorrow vs Indiana and speculates he may be done for the year.
Half a year? No thanks.
try year and a half
He's a junior...which means he can't play until halfway through next year...his senior year. You can't use a redshirt half in one year and half in another, which means you only get him for the second semester of his senior year.
He can only play one semester and there is controversy surrounding him. NO THANK YOU.
yeah Sultan is right but Idk why that would be no thanks? We have an opening anyways and rather than trying to fill it with Singleton(walk on) or some late signee(no big names left) why not use it on a proven good player for the tough part of a season and then get that scholarship again for 2012 with a chance to get a real talent.
He would definitly start on this team. He handles the ball better and shoots better than Buycks.

Unless he sat all of next year as well then he could play all of 2012-2013. But that would not help nearly as much.

We'll have two openings come next year, at least once Smith transfers out. We already had one remaining. As much as I'd like to see 4-year players, adding God's Gift (junior) and Devoe Joseph (senior) to our class for next year could really help. It would give us both an athletic frontcourt running mate that could play at the same time as Otule or Gardner and a starting caliber guard to provide offense and ball-handling that we likely wouldn't get with a freshman.
The added bonus is that it what it could add if those guys could get us a decent NCAA run. Crowder and DJO would likely be fairly studly next year, Blue is catching on quickly and could be really good a year from now, and with Wilson, Jones, Williams, Cadougan, Gardner, Otule, and Anderson we would be ridiculously deep. If Buzz could get that roster one deep run, at least a Sweet 16 and maybe even an Elite 8, he would immediately have an extra scholarship to offer for the 2012 and 2013 classes. We're already got some nice potential targets for those classes, an extra schollie in each might come in rather useful.
Adding a guy for one semester does us no good. Is he going to be the one to put us over the top next year? I doubt it...all he does is take time from someone else and stunt their year of development. Plus, considering his "issues," I see him as a net negative. Let's not seem desperate here.
One advantage of Smith transferring is now we could balance the classes better. We would have had FIVE sophomores next year with Wilson and Smith. With Smith gone that number will be four. We should try to get a four year player otherwise we are going to have a four followed by a two class graduation. Better to have a four then three.
The other schollie would probably be better to go after a transfer of some sort though perferably not someone who would be a Junior in 2012-13 otherwise we are back to five in one class.
Let's see ... a guy that is a head case on a team that considers Mbakwe a model student/athlete?
Are we sure we want to go down this road? Should Buzz start recruiting the local prisons for a power forward?
How many head cases with linkage to the state of Minnesota do we want in our lifetimes?
Amoroso
Mbakwe

Did you leave Copa off this list on purpose or referring to him as a "head" case just too impolite?
I believe he will have half of his junior year left and all of his senior year. I also believe we do not have an open scholarship. I am pretty sure, even though Smith left, his scholarship is considered used for all of this year. Different than Roseborro who left before attending as a fulltime student. Once a player starts the fall semester his scholarship is no longer available for that year.
Anybody know if Cory and Devoe are related to Abel and/or Kris Joseph?

No they are not. That said, Devoe is officially going to be transfering from the U of M and reports are many teams will be calling quickly. Let's see if we are among them.
Edit: They are actually cousins of Mojo and Kris Joseph. I dont think Abel though.

Good grief, man, what was wrong with Tom Copa?
