Title: OMG...
Post by: rocky_warrior on November 13, 2006, 08:38:08 PM
This game is ugly.  I can't believe what I'm hearing...they better come back...

How many no footers can MU miss?

this team has a long way to go before they will be competitive in the BE.

Win!  Ugh.  That was too close.  I'm praying for a lot of improvement by tomorrow.

Well, that was about the most painful win I have ever listened to. Better than the alternative, though.

Were they using a ball that was oversized or something? Geez...

Whew!!!  That was awful.
Let me be the 1,000th person to say it, "We're going to miss Novak."

Couldn't shoot twos, couldn't shoot threes, couldn't shoot FT's. Came back from 8 down in the second half with some press defense and ineptness by Idaho State. Sounded extremely ugly...but we escaped, that's all you can say.

Homer kept talking about the toilet lid being down --  MU really filled the bowl tonight.  And they played like it too.  But a win is a win.

The positive from tonight?  MU cannot possibly shoot worse in any game the rest of the year.

against a good team their ass would have been handed to them long ago.

the only positive is that we have the athletes to press with finally.  that's about it...

After looking at the box score....the positive I see is Ooze banging the boards.  All teams are bound to have horrible shooting nights.  Good teams find a way to win.

And that God they did.

I can't deny this was one ugly win.  But that's what it is, a "W."

College hoops has changed.  Look at tonight's action.  Boston College is beat down by Vermont.  ND goes down to Butler.  Indiana is struggling with Lafayette.

Just like the NFL, parody is here.

But it wouldn't hurt to hit a shot now and then.

Go Warriors.

i think you meant parity, but parody is also kinda appropriate.

Tennessee slipped by Fordham tonight as well....parity is defintely here...or is it parody?

It wasn't just the inability to shoot, it was the complete lack of offensive direction.  It was like two years ago without Diener all over again.  That damn 3 man weave at the top of the key over and over again before finally settling for a bad jumpshot and then missing it.  Its like they've completely forgotten how they played last year, no dribble penetration, no attack, and no ability to finish around the basket whatsoever.

And while I'm at it, would it be too much to ask to have a good inbounds play under the basket?  This one hasn't worked for Crean, and it didn't work for Deane either.

On the plus side, Cubillan can play very good defense....and from the looks of it he likes to trash talk a lot.

What part of James's game makes him a candidate for the NBA?  Not just tonight but over the last year as well???

And why all the praise for Barro??  He made two BIG throws at the end but the guy has no inside game...and his rebounds were all from MU missed bunnies.

Won't be the first to say nor the last...long year ahead!!  Not selling the tickets but loose the compression sleeves, headbands, wristbands and all the other toys the trainer is giving out and start worrying about basketball.  That #17 ranking has doomed us!!

Well because last year he probably would have missed those two FTs, and likely fumbled away the rebounds.  He's improved by bunches (carried over from the last few games last year), and he's still improving.

Plus...he's been more consistent than most of the other guys...

I'm sorry, but 1 for 5 isn't the kind of numbers Ousmane should be putting up against teams like Idaho State.  Granted, he did make two clutch free throws (THANK GOD!! NOBODY COULD MAKE ANY!) he really hasnt made the kind of improvements we need to improve from last year.

Certainly wasn't pretty. But, as the adage goes, "A win is a win."

I won't defend the team's performance tonight. It was downright awful. That said, I'm not ready to push the panic button and forfeit the rest of the season.

This team is extremely talented, but also very young. Those of us on this board who are writing this team off--after 2 regular season games--are being a bit premature, I think.

Now, if we go out Tuesday night, and play the way we've played, Detroit will probably beat us. If that's the case, then perhaps there will be some cause for concern. However, if we continue to play as poorly as we did, but can still come away with the W, then I guess we won't have much to complain about. After all, "A win is a win."

Fire Up Marquette! (seriously)

Question:  for as much of a focus as transition has been in practice, why does the team insist on slowing down to run a non-existent halfcourt set?  In my mind, part of the reason a team will shoot less than 30% in a game is when 85% of their shot selection is from further than 15 feet.  There was little, if no, cutting and dumping around the basket, and most of the close range shots were putbacks for missed jumpers.  If they would have taken advantage of the fact that Idaho State couldn't always run with them instead of backing out and dancing the guards behind the arc to settle for a range shot, I think we would have seen some drastically improved shooting numbers.

As for free-throws, I think Bobby Knight would have punched someone had his team been shooting like that.

As a student, I can take pride in saying that the student section REALLY did their part at the end of the game. Down six with a few minutes to go, the student section yelled, jumped, and willed the ISU offense into confusion. It was very obvious that with the student section so loud, the ISU offense had trouble communicating, thus forcing no FG in the last few minutes of reg.

Good work students.

I was also bummed when the team did not come over to the stu section to shake some hands. I know they were doing that last year.

Also, there was a point late in the game where the ISU coaching staff was screaming at their point guard to come to the sideline to call a timeout, and the PG could not hear him and kept going and it resulted in a jump ball, almost a turnover.

Someone posted on here these are the games that separate the fans from the fanatics... well the fanatics came last night and they made noise.

Bobby Knight DID punch someone.   Lots of ranked teams are losing to less heralded teams.   It is physically impossible to shoot worse.  We don't have to prepare to face any more man-to-man defenses all year, except for Texas Tech, assuming we beat Detroit.   See, things could be worse.   For awhile, it sounded like we had returned to the Mike Deane era.
