...where would he fall?
I saw this on Hanner's blog and I thought I would throw in Vander's stats to see where he nets out vs. the creme. Very high on many in fact...and overall, better than Barnes.

Blue's at least a top 20 recruit in my book. Really doesn't matter at this point. Just watching him on the court and its obvious his basketball skills and potential are unlimited. He's the next great Warrior guard in a long and illustrious line of great guards here. I'm hoping you'll see him take the reins of this team and make it is own beginning with BE season. BTW, I see Jean Pierre Tokoto has having a very similar demeanor and skill set. Love to see him join Vander on this team.
Blue has been fantastic. I honestly didn't think he was going to be doing this well. His offense is coming around now too.
He hit two clean pull-up jumpers on Saturday. If he gets that shot down... wow.
Once his jumpshot gets to the point where teams have to respect it, he will be a load to cover.
By his junior year he's going to be incredible if he continues to work his tail off. No reason to believe he won't do anything but that, especially with Buzz pushing him to be great. When he gets a little more consistent range he will be a double threat that will be very difficult to stop.
Looking forward to watching his development....been most impressed with his defense so far.
I love what Vander Blue has done this year, his offense is clearly improving, and his defense is outstanding. He's got to get in the gym and practice his jumpshot in the offseason, once he does that he will be an elite college guard.
Hanner now does RSCI Sophomores and V Blue still looks great as a frosh compared to Snaer for example.

Watching Van progress through the season makes me ask a question.... We will get to enjoy him all four years at Marquette?
I know he is only 12 games into his Frosh season, but me thinks that we will only see him play 3 seasons. I think he continues to improve each year and his gone after his Junior season.
Enjoy it while it lasts!
Yeah and some thought that we would only have DJO one more year too. Long way to go.
HOLD THE PHONE HERE GUYS. I was under the impression from Badger fans that Blue was stuck at PF and his game was suffering terribly here at MU. What gives?

Badger fans cooled on Vander.

It was horse carting like this during the summer that has people unduly frustrated with this year's team.

True, but I am not the only one... Draft Express has him going 24th overall in 2012 and that is a year earlier than my prediction...

I don't get it. Blue is still sub-par offensively, so how can anyone think he would be one-and-done?
That said, he should be the starting PG.

More like "two and out". Draft Express has 2012 not 2011. NBA is about potential for underclassmen. The potential is quite high. Don't be surprised if he is gone after his Junior year (2013), that is all I am saying.
Vander has continued to impress. He's finding ways to score even when he still hasn't really developed a solid jump shot. I hope that this will be his MAJOR off-season focus. Add a solid jump shot to everything he can already do and the sky is the limit for VB.
However, he isn't a PG. At least not yet. In the couple minutes that Buycks came out against MVSU, VB and DJO struggled to get the ball up the court against MV's "pressure" and the offense kind of sputtered. VB did not at all look comfortable bringing it up.

When I read the reports from those who saw Vander play this summer in the pro/am (in spite of the fact that I know "street ball" impressions can be a little skewed) and coupled them with his "down" senior year numbers in high school, I confess to thinking he might be overhyped. When I heard Buzz gushing about him (even before his numbers really stood out) I got excited again. His play the last few weeks makes it look like the sky's the limit.
I believe he will go down as one of the five best guards in school history. If he is in college Sr. year he should be 1st team All American. To me he has that something extra about him. Watching him and Wilson next year will be a blast.

one of 5 best in school history? Pretty tall order. Just from memory and in no particular order:
Butch Lee
Dean Meminger
Travis Diener
Dwayne wade
Brian Wardle
Jerel McNeal
Doc Rivers
Wes Mathews
sam Worthen
Tony Smith
Tony Miller
George Thompson
Lloyd Walton
Rob Logterman
and probably others I have missed. Sure, he may be better than some of these, but top 5? C'mon Man!
Looking at Blue today I would say he will be here for four years, his numbers are very good, his defense can be great but his offense needs to develop. The key to him leaving early, imo, is how he does next year. We did not see deafening his freshman yea, and maybe blue is playing to that level.this year. I have heard that there is a big jump from freshmen to sophomore years.on the court, and I think blues sophomore campaign will show us.if he will leave after his Jr. Year.

George Thompson was a forward. Robb Logterman was a nice player but doesn't deserve to be on a list with these guys.
How about Earl Tatum as well !!!
There are so many more great players to add to the list.... such as Jim Chones, Jim McVanie (sp), Ric Cobb, Bob Wolf, Tom flynn, Don Kojis, Walt Mangham, and more. The continual list of blue chip talent has made Marquette so enjoyable to watch for a long time.
The comment that Goose made was top5 of Guards in MU history, so I limited the list to that.
Earl Tatum played Forward during his Glory years, but did play Guard for his pro stint, so yes, he could be added to the list. Bob Wolf was in same boat. Another one would be Ron Glaser.
Point is, you van have an opinion but to make that statement, top 5 Guard, look at the list he would have to beat. And it is easy to make that statement because it is subjective.

Who is Dwayne Wade?
Isn't he the son of that all time great Bears QB Billy Wade? Merry Christmas!
I have seen all of the mentioned guards play over the years and fully understand the tradition of great guards. I stand by my comment that Blue can be in the top five. Quite honestly most names listed were nice players but after top 5-6 on the list there is major drop off. To me Butch Lee was greatest MU guard (based on college play) and Dwade is most talented.
Dean was special but different era. Loved watching him play and have him after Lee and Wade. To me it is like retiring numbers. People throw great way too easily. I am not saying Blue is great today but he has lots of upside to him.
