Nah, UW probably isn't interested.

I went to Germantown HS (graduated in 08) and I can tell you that Showalter is a nice player but won't be playing for MU unless he wants to walk on.  And based on who his dad is, I doubt that will ever happen.

His dad is a real jerk. This is a typical BO type of recruit, so why isn't UW interested in this kid? He's only a Jr so maybe he will progress in the next year or grow.

Considering Showalter's father is the coach, Buzz could be laying the groundwork for recruiting 6'8" sophomore Luke Fischer.  He is skinny right now but it sounds like he is very skilled.

Here is Mark Miller's assessment of both players after the prep showcase in fall:

Underclass Performer Of The Day

Germantown had five kids take part in the Showcase and each and every one of them was extremely impressive. There is no question the Warhawks are positioned for a banner 2010-11 campaign under the guidance of coach Steve Showalter. His son, Zak, a rugged 6-2 junior, was voted the top underclass performer of the day because he once again played with energy, toughness and a zeal that, quite frankly, no other player in the state, regardless of class, can match. Quite simply, Showalter is a player coaches at every level want to go to war with because he does all the little things necessary to win games. And he does them game after game after game. His improved perimeter stroke was impressive, but it's Showalter's basketball I.Q. and toughness that continually stand out.

Biggest Dow Joneser (Stock Riser)

This award, like the others, could have gone to any number of players. However, the one player who had virtually everybody buzzing was Germantown sophomore Luke Fischer, a skilled 6-7 forward who is just outside the Top 25 in the WisSports.net Player Rankings for 2013. Fischer will no doubt vault into the Player Rankings when they are updated in January. He displayed a great shooting touch around the basket, mixed things up on the glass and showed great hands both in rebounding and in catching the ball in the paint. Like virtually all kids his age, Fischer needs to add weight and strength, but he has a very promising future, one that figures to reach its maximum potential playing alongside guys like Zak Showalter, Joshua Mongan, Dan Studer and Malcolm Bowers at Germantown.

Love it....a traditional player....we need one of these on the squad.  Not 13 of them, just one will do.

I know nothing at all about this kid.  However if you can find coach's sons who have talent (not just good because they have high b-ball IQ) you always should go after them.  They always play above their talent level because of that b-ball coaching pedigree.  Look at the Dieners, Bennett, Drew, et al.  They were talented but played even a level above their talent because of that coaching pedigree.

Could not agree more.

If his dad played at Platteville, I wonder if he played for Bo.

Based on the AAU team this kid plays for, methinks he will end up somewhere in the Bo Ryan coaching tree.

According to reports, MU is recruiting a shooter in the 2012 class...I'm just not sure if he's traditional enough for Chicos.

Well, we don't have any commits for 2012 so we're recruiting a lot of guys for 2012. But there is one notable shooter from California, Gabe York.

ESPN praises his shooting ability, and while I saw a bunch of mixtapes on YouTube that showed off an impressive jumper with good arc, this one seemed to highlight it the best, despite being a bit grainy:

If he can shoot the ball, make free throws at 78% or better, has a high BBall IQ, etc, he'll be plenty traditional enough for me.
