Title: Centenary and MVS
Post by: APieperFan3 on December 14, 2010, 04:39:07 PM
They are a combined 1-18 (as of right now).

Maybe I'm getting antsy...but definately not a way to start "building our resume".

We had/have opportunities to do that against Duke, Gonzaga, UW and Vandy.

Yeah, I was just thinking yesterday that given how the schedule has played out, it would have been nice this year to have had a game against a Top 100-150 opponent and get an OOC win (e.g. Western Kentucky, UAB, UMass, etc.) against an opponent in that range.  It seems like we have had either 200+ RPI type wins or Top 50 losses (Gonzaga being the exception).

I was surprised to see UWM ranked 117 in the RPI.  I hope they stay in the Top 150 all year.

You think that two more games again teams like western kentucky or UWM is gonna be what makes or breaks our schedule? We have a game against Vandy then about 13-14 more quality chances to get wins throughout the year. You don't need to worry about Centenary not being a top 150 team.

I thought BuckneL had a decent RPI.

Like it or not, the committee makes a big deal about OOC wins.  If we win at Vandy then we are back on track.  If we don't we probably have to go 12-6 in the Big East to get a bid.  That is a tall order.

If we lose to Vanderbilt, it would have been nice to have another OOC win against a Top 150 team, yes.  Hopefully we win versus Vandy and go 12-6 in the Big East.  But every little bit helps if we don't and some higher quality wins would have been nice versus RPI 250+ wins OOC.

Centenary, was a 2 year contract with MU. The Gents are dropping from D1 to D3.

Mississippi Valley State had a good recruiting class this year (top 100)
Every non-league game is on the road.

NCAA puts a lot of emphasis on quality non-conf wins. we have none.

It might not end up a true "bad loss" but everything in my gut calls the Gonzaga loss a bad one.

It may not build our resume, but it sure is a good way to pad our record against more cupcakes at home, and also to give Buzz more opportunity to "tinker" with the starting line up and "tweak" his psychology on DJO and Jr.

We would be better off playing some decent teams to gain the proper experience.

It won't be when Gonzaga wins the WCC.
