Vander Blue Named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week
The BIG EAST Conference has named Providence forward Marshon Brooks and Marquette guard Vander Blue the winners of the league's men's basketball honors for the week-ending Dec. 12.

Doesn't the Big East have a name for this award? The Carmelo-Ewing Trophy, maybe?
I keep telling myself not to come to this board and especially to post here, but does anybody feel that a kudos to Vander is in order? Just sayin' as you in the know people would say.
should i send him flowers? what are you suggesting here.
Maybe some of those (Kudos) granola bars?
WE SHOULD HANG A BANNER!

Newbill would have already received this recognition twice...

It would probably have to be renamed "The D.J. Newbill Award"
Quick to criticize... not so quick to congratulate. Still no one willing to do that? Why? This really bothers me. An MU player wins an award and there's no recognition on the board. If he'd had a terrible game, my guess is there would have been a long thread on this board about that.

Agreed, I was thinking the same thing. Congrats Vander. Excited to see his play improve.

Individual accolades don't get you into the dance. Vander had a very nice game against TAMU-CC and people said as much here. In my opinion, he's been a very good player for us so far. It's nice for him to get some recognition outside of the MU community, but the fact of the matter is that a quality win on Saturday would have been infinitely better for the team. I'm sure that Vander would be the first to tell you that.
That said, I am glad he is on the team. He seems to have the right attitude and work ethic. Congratulations to him on his play and growth so far. Let's hope he continues to improve. If that means more awards, cool. If that means more wins and a better team, excellent.
Tough crowd today.

Saturday has nothing to do with Vander winning the award though.
Congrats Vander.
Who was the last freshman to win a RoW award? Dominic?

Yeah, Dom had 6 as a freshman and Jerel 1.
I think a lot of people are still just really upset in the fact MU missed on Josh Gasser and got Vander Blue for a consolation prize. It's going to take time for MU fans to heal from it.
21 of those points last week came against the Washington Generals.

I think it would have to be under the new Big 10 award naming strategy and probably called the
Saunders - Newbill Award
Congrats to Vander Blue. I remember DJ winning this honor several times his freshman year, but not sure if MU had anyone else take the honor since then. Well done.

I really don't know what you want. This isn't Vander's facebook wall, so who or what am I congratulating by saying as much on this site. Winning this award doesn't change Vander's game in any way, shape or form. He still doesn't have a jumper. He still plays excellent defense. He still has a ton of potential and is being rather productive as a freshman. All of this was said as much last week and is still true today. To suddenly change my overall opinion of him would be rather reactionary to something that changes nothing.
If I see Vander, however, I would be sure to congratulate him. Because then it would actually mean something.
