We can harp all we want about the fact that MU is shooting poorly. But IMO the cause for this is the shots they are choosing to take. Far too often this team is forcing a one-on-one drive with more than 10 seconds left on the shot clock and throwing up a highly contested circus shot. All at the same time passing up on open, feet set, 3 pt opportunities. I think alot of this comes from the youth on the team. Knowing that when there is still 15 or 20 seconds on the clock is not the time to pull out a Kobe/Wade move. Its time to drive for a open shot for your teammate.
The other thing that I think needs to happen is to set some plays just to get Jimmy the ball in isolation. I think its obvious at this point that he is not going to take control by himself. And quite frankly, he needs to. So force the issue by running some plays designed specifically to get him the ball in isolation. He goes far too long without even touching the ball or making an agressive offensive move.
I have seen this all year long and it hasnt hurt too bad against bad teams but its really gonna hurt against the BE teams. I think it hurts far worse than it did against UW, because quite frankly they arent that good this year either. Its to the point where Buzz needs to start yanking guys for shot selection before he yanks them for defense.
I think the offensive gameplan was to drive at uw's shooters and get them into foul trouble. And it actually worked fairly well in the first half. The second half...not so much. We can't shoot set three pointers. The one guy we relied upon to do so isn't hitting them.
