Is it just me or does it seem like DJO does not have confidence in his shot right now?
I felt this way after he picked up the loose ball in the first half and could have pulled up for an open shot at the elbow but instead pulled the back out to reset.
Not just you.
We need DJO to go back to what he used to. Junior also had a wide open look and passed it up one time, I know he is not a great shooter, but when you are that wide open take the shot
2nd half offense was pretty much pump fake from three drive kick out and repeat process.
I'm just curious what happened since last year. Is it that knowing that he was the offensive go to guy on this team, and having all summer to think about it got in his head? Maybe the uncertainty/low expectations of last year made things comfortable for him to grow into a number two offensive option? Guy seems like a worker, so maybe he just feels like he has to make every shot?
DJO always has seemed to be a guy that builds his confidence with every made shot. When he is hot he is hot, but when he misses his first shot you often see him putting his head down and continue with that slumping.

I am not sure if this is right but maybe the loss of Acker and Cubillan hurts his game because because of their shooting ability it spreads the floor giving him more space to drive. With the threat of driving to the hoop he would have more space for his shot since the defense would have to play him looser. This year without a three point threat defenses seem to be compacting the paint so the way he is guarded on the perimeter is tighter making tougher for him to shoot.
thats a good point. i was probably too quick to make this a mental situation, when in reality there are variables on the court that go a long way toward explaining whats going on.
DJO is not elevating on his trey attempts...he is flat footed from beyond the arc which is causing him to push the ball to one side. He needs to get back to squaring up and elevating so he can get a nice rotation on the ball. He is almost doing a set shot now causing him to flat line it, which may be a bad habit developed from his tendency to pump fake.
i completely agree it is a confidence thing with DJO right now. considering how poorly he has played so far this year i think it is understandable that his confidence would be shaken. but a couple side notes 1 isnt he 2nd in scoring right now? and 2 expectations for DJO definitely got out of control in the offseason. my advice, best way to get through a shooting slump is to keep shooting. a shooter of his caliber will eventually turn it around. keep pulling DJO!
He plays like a kitten.
You could see it in spots last year.. like a scared cat.
He's got plenty of confidence, he continues to take a number of shots and drive to the hoop. His mechanics are off, shot putting the ball, aiming it, instead of the pure stroke he had last year. I think he is forcing it. We know he can shoot, we just need the other guys to create some space so DJO has a nice, in the flow of things shot. Perhaps a little inside post up, look opposite, stroke it might work.
DJO needs to shoot!!!
Vander and Buycks are infinitely better drivers and defenders. If DJo is going to shot fake and drive, spin, and throw up crap we are better off having buycks and Vander drive. they are in much better control...will actually crreate an assist off the drive on occassion and play infinitely better defense. My back court on Monday would be Junior, Vander, and Buycks with DJo coming off the bench.
