Standoff between police and 2 people in a stolen SUV on the Marquette interchange. Added 20 mins to my commute from campus to my co-op job this morning.
They just rolled the bomb robot up to the side of the SUV so they can use the video camera on it, apparently.
whatever happened to 'come on out or we will shoot'? Reed and Malloy would never put up with this crap.

I think the concern is that one of the 2 people in the vehicle may be a hostage.
TEARGAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's be honest:
THAT.
WAS.
AWESOME.
Can we get the bomb robot to present the game ball tomorrow?
I'm surprised it took them 6 hours to do that though.

yeah, the tear gas could have been done without a robot and 6 swat team members cowering behind a truck.
Any truth to the rumor that, in town for the Raymonds services, Crean was driving the SUV? That would explain the hullabaloo.

I'm not. It's all about C.Y.A. for the police. They need to jump through all the hoops and red tape to ensure they follow the proper policies and protocol to prevent lawsuits and criticism from the media. It's unfortunate, but a by product of our legal system.
(Biased point of view from the son of a police officer.)

+1. Thanks to all the lawyers out there making our world safer for criminals and more dangerous for the police and civilians.

Based on the timing of it, I can't help but wonder if they intentionally let it sit until after rush hour was over so they could close 94 Eastbound without causing a massive backup.

unfortunately the robot is unable to handle the size 7 ball the men use, well except in Champaign, IL....

Moral of the story?
Robots are sissys.
The driver of the standoff flashed ammunition and threatened to open fire. Guess that's why they overblew the situation
