Title: OT: Scout site
Post by: jutaw22mu on December 09, 2010, 09:45:46 AM
I think my computer may have caught something from the Scout site (although I don't explicitly recall clicking any links from there).  I remember about a week ago someone mentioned they spent some time having to delete a virus/malware that their computer contracted from the scout site.  How did you delete it?  I suck at computers and need help.

What is the virus doing to people's computer?

I can't help on fixing the problem, don't have that expertise.

And while I don't want to heap on, because I do frequent both sites, and enjoy the commentary and dialogue on each ... I have noticed that my computer virus protection is frequently notifying me about attempted attacks when I head to the scout page, especially in the last 2-3 days.

download free, install, and run.

I use both, and have NEVER had a virus issue that they couldn't take care of.

I would highly recommend always wearing a condom when surfing the Internet.

I second this.  Spybot S&D and AVG Free are great and easy to use.  There was only one time that they couldn't take care of my problem.

If these don't work for you, I'd try to determine a specific issue you're experiencing (e.g. the name of a fake anti-virus program that is popping-up) and then google search it.  There are a lot of great guides on the internet.  That is what I did said time above when my existing programs weren't enough.

One other piece I'd recommend is .. the browser.

Generally speaking, IE is far more susceptible to web browsing viruses.

Highly recommend Firefox, and especially the AdBlock Plus plug-in.   It's highly likely that Scout isn't spreading a virus, but one of their 3rd party advertisers are, inside an advertisement.

Adblock helps in many regards, plus blocks a lot of stuff you don't want to see anyhow.

Though I feel compelled to point out, using Adblock won't change the look of MUScoop at all  ;D

FWIW, I use adblock, and it's amazing how much it cleans up and speeds up browsing.  I often read about annoying ads that I never knew were there!

As already mentioned, spybot and avg free work very well.

Also, malwarebytes and Superspyware free edition work very well.

Good luck

Avoid Dodd's site like a fat bridesmaid at a wedding.

Had to go to Deathcon-5 to get rid of the virus.  Wipe everything out.

Also got a browser virus, used tds killer to get rid of it, it's free.

I assumed I was blocking the ads on MUscoop for Hoops, Art's Performing Center, and On the Border by using AdBlock.

If AdBlock blocks ads for Art's, I am never installing that on my computer.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware restart your computer into safe mode with networking and run the program. -Sometimes running your comp in safe mode is the only way to access the internet

+1 on Spybot.  I've gotten two viruses from the Scout site now and it's removed both when nothing else on my computer was working because of the virus.  With one I didn't click on anything, on another a pop-up appeared which looked exactly like my antivirus, with the "Restart" or "Postpone" to install updates buttons.  Went there a couple days ago and saw it again and that's how I knew, and another time the "Remote Desktop Connection", which I use all the time on my work computer fake popped-up but by then I knew better.  No way I'm going to that site anymore until they get their act together.

If Dodd's is going to destroy our computers, the least he can do is show us his tits.

Porno sites don't even hit you this hard.

I remember when I'd go to Dodds site a few years back and  there was this chick in a green dress laying on her back with f*** me eyes.  I expect that chick to be naked if I ever go back to his site.  Dodds you owe me porn.

So... girl in the green dress is a stock photo.  You can buy a super high-res version here if you so desire:

Here are the others from the set that I found.

Edit:  I'm not a wizard.  http://www.tineye.com got me to istockphoto and a little searching around found me the photographer and the other pics he had of this girl.  Plus I am a wizard, I was just trying to throw you off earlier.
