Title: Buzz's Bunch
Post by: connie on December 06, 2010, 08:05:53 AM
Due to the generosity of the Marquette Men's Basketball program I was lucky to be able to see my son join Buzz's Bunch on Saturday before the Longwood game.  For those that are unaware, Buzz's Bunch allows disabled children and their families a chance to go to a game, meet the team during a shootaround on the court, and score some swag.  I cannot tell you how good it feels to see your kid at first stand in awe of the players, and then as they grow more comfortable, run up to them with huge smiles asking for autographs.  Best moment of the day: watching as Otule and Williams lifted a small boy up to the rim so he could dunk.  That kid's smile, and the smile it left on Chris and Erik's faces, will stay with me for some time.

From the cheer squad who handled check-in and escorted the kids around to the players who laughed and interacted with the kids to the coaches and administration that set this up I was struck by the graciousness and good will of all involved.  While this board concentrates on the product put out on the floor, I was reminded of just how much more these young people are asked to give of themselves that we don't get to see, or appreciate.  So a public "Thank You" to all involved.

You can help make this an even bigger success.  According to Buzz the size of this event is limited by the availability of lower bowl seats, and a number of kids are excluded (not an issue for us and some others in the Bunch as we have season tickets).  Looking around at the Longwood game it was obvious that a number of game tickets were not used.  There is another Buzz's Bunch game on the 18th against Centenary, and if you cannot make it please consider donating your tickets to Buzz's Bunch.  I can promise you they will be put to a good use.

If you feel comfortable, I would love to see some pics.

I've never seen anything from the university asking for ticket donations to Buzz's Bunch.  Anyone know how somebody would go about doing that?

I hope someone calls the athletic office and posts the details to this thread.

I looked on the gomarquette website to donate my tickets for longwood, but you had to mail them to the school a week or more in advance and other hoops to jump through.  They should have a link to email the tickets to someone in the AD to distribute quicker.

Today we donated our 4 tickets to Centenary so that others can enjoy this great experience.  We were told by the Men's Basketball office that

"The addition of your 4 tickets would be very welcome.  We are busting at the seams with requests for the Centenary game."

If you are not going, please consider putting your tickets to a good use.

This is specific to the men's basketball program in regards to Buzz's Bunch tickets, so contact that office directly at 414-288-7130 if you would like to donate your tickets for the Centenary game.

Just took me about 2 minutes to make the call and get my seats emailed to MU.  The ticket office reprints the tickets, so the family can get real tickets, not computer print-offs.  If you're not going to a game, please donate them!

No, Tuesday is a Buzz's Bunch day as well.  Not sure if that is the last one or not.

I don't think tuesday is a buzz's bunch game, they told me that they didn't need my tickets for that game.
