Title: Observations
Post by: dw3dw3dw3 on December 04, 2010, 06:28:14 PM
Seems like much of the same positives and negatives from Longwood.

- None of the PG options stood out, JC seemed to lose his handle quite a few times and was easily blocked on his only venture to the hoop. DB played off the ball a little more with RS getting some run, which seemed to have him a little more in control. RS didn't do a whole lot. He did hit a pretty open 3 in rhythm that Buzz didn't seem to happy about.
- Rebounding with Joe in the lineup seemed to be a lot more consistent, I think he will get most of COs minutes come conference time.
- I saw VB shoot about 4-35 in 2nd half warmups from about 15-18 ft catching a pass from Buzz, taking 1 dribble, and no defense. It was unreal how off he was, did anyone else see this?  Yet defensively he was solid as usual, he took the ball like me taking it away from my 6 year old from #21. He also left his feet on a rotation to a 3pt shot fake from one of the quick guards, but somehow got his feet back on the ground and stopped the penetration... very impressive.
- Chris seems to catch everything with his palms, rather than his fingers, very awkward watching him catch/rebound the ball.
- Jones was supposed to come in at about 14 min in the 1st half, Buzz didn't like how fast he got up to check in and sent him back... he is on a very short leash. Wish he would come in one time and just hit 3 in a row from deep or something so he could gain his identity on the team.
- Is Jae our best 3pt shooter? I don't feel comfortable yet shooting it yet, but I guess someone has to make them.
- I feel like DJO should be averaging 25 against these teams....frustrating to watch him missfire so much.
- Rob had confidence when he came in today, that was good to see.

Wisconsin will be tough, they will have to crack with our pressure, can't see beating them in a half court game.

Not getting Buzz's "motivational" techniques, and minutes played. I see his man crush boy Bucyks led the team with 25 minutes, and he started Smith.

I guess this is the way to get inside some player's heads, but what will it do?

Yes, he needs to shoot 1000 jumpers a day.  Something is off.

I thought that was Crowder he grabbed and sent back to the bench.

Might have been Jae another time... it was definitely JJ the time I saw, he came back to the end of the bench with that dejected look in his face. I hope he buys what Buzz is selling so we can see his progression with a summer of work.  He's got great length, gets up super high on his jumper, but kind of puts his whole body into it so it seems like there is a lot that could go wrong. Super athletic though, got up real quick on that missed dunk from a stand still, didn't have to gather himself at all.

It really is troubling to have so many players within two classes that play similar ball.  How can they be content on this team.  Has a depth chart been played out in practice clearly defining each player's role?  If not, there could be chaos at some point.  Hope not.  Want Marquette to win and want the players to all share in the glory and fun of winning.  Hope the team identify clears up for the start of the Big East season.  It's Buzz's responsibility to lead the team and establish its identity as worked out by the players in practice and games.
