It is located in Farmville, Virginia, and was known as the State Teachers College at Farmville for awhile. It only became co-educational in 1976. It has about 4,800 students and is an independent in most sports
WTF are they doing playing D1 basketball?

$ and prestige.
Doesn't cost much to field a DI basketball program. The lower end programs do it on a few hundred thousand dollar budget. Allows the school to say they played at Big East schools (MU and Seton Hall), at an ACC school (Va Tech & Maryland), Ivy League (Columbia), Big 12 (Colorado), etc. That means their name is "in lights" for a night.
It was a rhetorical question, but if you make the decision to award athletic scholarships, you may as well be Division 1. You can't cash the cupcake checks from Marquette as a D2 program.

I live about 45 minutes from Longwood.
I've been down there quite a few times - the campus is a nice size but I'm not a big fan of it otherwise. There really isn't much to do in Farmville either (the locals call it Farm Vegas). My good friend from HS plays on their team (David Robsinson) and I happen to be taking a trip to Milwaukee this week so I will be at the game. I might just be the only person in the crowd who has actually seen the school. ;D

I know David Robinson is older now, but I don't know how we are going to be able to stop The Admiral with just Otule.
Farmville? Should we start the Facebook jokes now or wait til game time?

The locals in OshVegas would like to have a word with these folks.
Interesting fact about the school is that it originally was called Longwoody. Coeds applied for admission in droves tough it's not even middle of the road. However, after ZFB matriculated and was seen in the shower, there's no way they could have kept that name.
For all of you out there who want to get a look at our next opponent.....Longwood will have a televised game on MASN channel 640 DirecTV Wed. 12/1 8pm at home vs. James Madison. Also a rerun on channel 642 Thur. 12/2 at 6pm. I know many of you will be glued to your TVs.

Good, I still have time to get DirecTV to watch the game, albeit the rerun.
