Okay, so I just realized this.. I was so into the game last night that I did not even realize that Reggie Smith did not play one minute. Why? I ask. He started previous games, and I understand it was a big game, but not even off of the bench?
Watching the most recent Marquette: Revealed showed that Reggie had a bad practice Sunday night.... did Buzz sit him because of this? Will he play tonight?
Buzz himself doesn't know the answer to that
From the looks of Episode 13 of revealed, Reggie really wasn't listening well in KC.
I believe the quote from Aki was "Why can't you be coached today?!"
Don't worry this is not premium or insider information.

What has Smith done in the games so far to receive playing time? So far, he's turn it over and quickly picked-up fouls away from the basket.
He's a freshman, he will play some... But not facing #1 Duke when you're trailing the whole game.
He's not ready yet. Junior, Buycks, DJO, Vander (in no particular order) all have their shortcomings but are still better than Reggie. He's a great athlete but he needs to work on his skills and leadership a bit in order to be a contributor against a team of Duke's caliber.

Don't read too much into that practice. Every player, especially younger ones, are going to have bad practices. Reggie is just on the outside right now, but that doesn't mean that he won't be valuable to this team this year.

Williams and Jones never left the pine also. Buzz obviously felt they were not ready to help out. I doubt smith would have been effective anywat.

What I had inferred from the point Buchec was trying to make was that Buzz, earlier this year, said that the guys that start the game will be the guys who had the best practices that week. The reason that starting lineups didn't change between 2 of the cupcakes earlier this year was because they hadn't had a practice between the two games.
I agree with your point too, though.
This isn't pee wee league. You don't have to play everyone. They keep score at these games.
I dont think anyone neeeds to read anything into anything. Do not try to connect the dots from some video snippet and Smith not playing last night.
Did anyone watch the last 4 games? Smith has very poor turnovers, sloppy ball handling and bad passes n decisions.
Right now he is a very athletic kid that can guard the ball and do little else ...we have 4 guards that are significantly better than reggie right now. that is why he did not play.
reggie had a good game and hit a few shots against a D2 school and I beleive he is going to be a very nice player for us in a year or two. He is not ready yet to play in those types of games. reggie and Jamil will most likely be just Like ewill last year.

You mean Jamail...not Jamil.
I'd like to know what a "bad practice" is for a player.
True, I'm no basketball scholar, but one thing I've observed from those Revealed videos is .. those practices / methods / plays .. are COMPLEX. Lots of coach speak I do not understand.
Clearly, if a player was lazy, lollygagging, not paying attention, I get that's bad. Somehow, I don't think any of our guys are doing that.
When a player has a "bad practice" is it because .. the staff isn't explaining things well enough for the players to execute their teachings/orders? So the player does something "wrong" yet is still trying hard = bad practice?
one thing i was told early on and have always taken to heart is you can never yell at a kid if you in fact have not clearly defined what it is that you are looking for /expect.
I always find it funny...actually sad when you see some coach out there yelling at some kid for not doing something right. the question that dufuss needs to ask himself is have I properly taught him to do what i am yelling at him for not doing right.
If the answer is we have gone over that menatlly and physically often enough that i want to get into him...then fine.
if the effort is there and the coach has failed in teaching what is expected then the coach needs to commend the effort and make a note to practice that situation.
I guarantee the MU coaches and most good coaches are doing the latter. Now go to your local little league or gym and you will get the former.
I think Erik deserved the chance
Heard he sprained an ankle...
ZFB thinks he's in a boot.
