To see Gasser. Bucky on Versus now vs. UNLV
Uw loses. Nice inbounds play. Bo calls a timeout to draw that inbounds play up?
Bruesewitz f*cked up major, and Leuer told him as much.
Gasser looked okay. Played big minutes, has a nose for the ball (7 rebounds), and didn't seem athletcally in over his head. Mainly a spot up shooter whose shot wasn't falling (2-8 overall, 1-6 on 3s). Don't see how he would play much for us this year. Or next year. Maybe ever.

When teams start zoning us like crazy and we can't hit the broadside of the barn, then it will become evident.
We can't defend the three and we don't look like we can shoot it very well, either. Hopefully both can be remedied soon.

Maybe you're right. Maybe Gasser would beat out Buycks, DJO or Vander. I think that's crazy, but I guess time will tell.
As far as defending the 3, (or defending anything for that matter), from what I saw today Gasser would only make matters worse.

Sigh
It's not a matter of him (or anyone else) beating those three out. It's not a zero sum game. We have a ton of guys that DO THE SAME THING. We have one shooter on this team. I get the running gag with Gasser, it's knee slapping hilarity. You can substitute his name with any other kid in the country that can actually shoot the ball.
Hopefully DJO gets off the snide and DB can stay hot, but we simply don't have much range. So the question isn't whether any one of the sharpshooters that we decided not to recruit (not just this year) could beat out one of the guys on the team, the question is whether we should have one on the team and one less of the type of player we have, since there are about 6 guys that do the same thing anyway. That is a glaring weakness we have no answer for, IMO.
We finally have a decent post player, we have athletes all over the place that can handle the ball, we have slashers, but we don't have anyone (at least consistently) that seems to be able to stretch a defense. DJO certainly was that guy last year and I suspect he can be again this year. Of course last year we had 4 guys that could do it, this year so far we have one. It's not Gasser, as much as you guys want to make it out to be. It's ANYONE that can shoot the ball from range....INSERT NAME.
Jamail Jones is supposed to be a very good 3 point shooter. Buycks has looked good from beyond the arc. Also, Crowder has hit some threes. Last year at this time I figured we'd have problems shooting. We didn't know DJO was this good of a shooter (at least I didn't) Cubillan we still weren't all that sure on after his junior season. Acker we saw some flashes of the previous year that with a good amount of playing time was a good shooter. I think it is too early to say we have no shooters right now. In about 2 weeks if we still look like this then I think it will be warranted

DJO is 2 for 12 on 3's so far. That is 16%. After one month of practice and four games I hope he gets some sort of shooting form back. Running out of excuses.

1. It is a matter of Gasser (or a similar sharpshooter) beating out one of the guys we already have. I simply don't see it. Perhaps as a situational shooter, but not as someone who will start/play major minutes in place of one of our guards.
2. Buzz has made it quite obvious that he's not interested in players whose only (predominant) skill is shooting. "Switchables," Chicos, "Switchables." Knowing Buzz's philosophy, to sit here and lament the lack of a 3-point specialist is a waste of keystrokes.
3. DJO can shoot. Buycks can shoot. JB can hit a 3 (when he takes them). Crowder has already shown some range, as has Vander. Jamail (as mentioned above) is touted as a shooter. It's not our perceived lack of shooters that worries me so much as our inability to cover the opposing team's shooters.
I think you're right, it doesn't fit his philosophy. I'm just wondering if that will change over time. He's still a very young head coach. If teams start zoning us to death in the coming years and we don't have a consistent answer, he may decide that one less "switchable" player is ok. We'll see.

That's fair. And don't get me wrong: DJO needs to find his stroke, and fast.
I agree, Chicos, we need a 'Gary Rosenberger'.

Does it have to be the three? I know it is a huge game changer and all, but what about the mid-range jumper-it's given up in college almost every possession, just need to take them.
In the first few games E-Will has shown he has an adroit touch. Deft from around 12-15, would these types of shots suffice or does it have to be long range?
(Just felt like talking up E-Will. I found this fitting.)
