Better than the alternative (though sucks for fans in the bleachers):

Just like everything at Wrigley.
Sorry couldn't resist.
So according the a quote in the article, they did their due diligence for 18 months, but it took until the day before the game to decide there wasn't enough room behind the endzone...
So the fact that they had to design a special field goal post that attaches to a BRICK wall rather than being planted in the ground didn't register as a potential problem?
Unbelievable incompetence.
I'm kind of pissed about this. I've got a ticket to the game...there is no way they didn't know about this until now.
The fake ivy on those padded walls is ridiculous, by the way.
They had to take out seats by the third base dugout as well just to get the field to fit.

As a die-hard Cubs fan, I have to say...well done, sir.
So far the Ricketts family hasn't done much to endear themselves to Cubs fans (or to improve the team). This isn't going to help.

""We vetted it through all the experts at both universities and felt everyone was comfortable with the dimensions."
...until today. Time for some new experts I guess. lol

Says a lot about NU and UI :P
Bastions of academic achievement, like all B10-11-12 schools.

You mean you're passing up the South Dakota game?
Everyone should look for Augie's mug on Gameday.

Yes...went to UWGB and now passing up every game until Wisco. Planning on attending the Vandy game, too.

Hey, that's not fair... The Cubs now have a shiny new Toyota sign, noodle art and new urinal troughs. That's progress, thanks Tom!

Smart choice. I wouldn't want to miss seeing Gasser in person either.
The Big Ten had the dimensions for the game for 8 months and they made this decesion today?
Both teams are sharing a sideline so will they have to switch sides as well? Fans who paid a fortune for bleacher, end zone seat have got to be pissed about this.
The Big Ten screwed this one up big time.

According to the B10, the drawings of the field layout that the Cubs showed them did not indicate that the end zone would bump up against the wall. However, the real-life pictures I saw over a week ago indicated that it would.
Whatever the case, it's nice to finally have a story where all sides are responsible for the debacle.
agreed, the fake ivy is so tacky. leave it to a group of FIBs to F something up like this
The Cubs have no responsibility in this. Northwestern asked to use Wrigley and they said yes.
The dimensions given to the Big Ten and NCAA by civil engineers and laywers were accurate.
no matter who was responsible, a FIB is still at the bottom of it
cubs= FIBs
northwestern= FIBs
illinois= FIBs

I didnt know the elementary school pick up football rule of "losers take the walk" can apply to college football

you wish, so glad i'm not a fib
I'd like to hear your reasons why you wouldn't want to be a fib?
too many reasons to list, here are a few: tolls; crooked politics; cubs and their annoying fans; traffic; taxes- property, excise, gas; bears; false sense of entitlement. you get the idea

Please stop.
Football is driving the conference re-alignment bus, we spend endless threads obsessing about football and football is so gd important and overwhelming that they they are going to play a 'losers walk' B10 game.

actually skipping this one, 4ever, planning to be at MU/SD game (I hope).
Wish I was going-sounds like the town is going crazy! Wildcats were talking about riding to the game on the train! Should be great fun. DVR'ing it, but not the same.
Have fun, Chicos.
Just heard NU's student section is adjacent to the East endzone. Sucks!

when people ax where i'm from i say "well i've lived in mke the past few years...but i am a FIB through & through!" i often get the "no, you're not" to which I retort, well you should see me drive sometime :) for the record, we may make you cranky, but as I like to remind people, I'm sure the WI economy would be markedly worse off w/o those FIB greenbacks ;)
Now, mr. Jumpin' Jesuit/hoosier, just because the institutions aforementioned all reside in the state borders of IL... does it necessarily mean the decision-makers were Illinoisans? and yes that's spelled correctly in case you were wondering. Just food for thought. When I heard there was this game @ Wrigley, i was really surprised for the record.
Now if only one would start playing bball @ Miller Park . . .
Bears at Wrigley.
