Title: Vitale mentions MU during Butler/Louisville
Post by: jesmu84 on November 16, 2010, 07:27:37 PM
During Louisville/Butler game, when mentioning Big East teams... "I think Marquette is going to be a lot better than most people think"

BTW, this could be a good game. and have some impact on NCAA seeding down the line

Been a great day of hoops, though the best wasn't even on ESPN but on ESPN2. UConn Lady Huskies held on for a 65-64 win against Baylor after the Lady Bears had a 6-point lead late in the 2nd half. Great game, disappointing finish for Baylor, and the UConn streak survives at 80 straight wins.

+1

If their offensivesuccess is predicated on Matt Howard staying on the floor, they could be in for a long year...

I don't know why people expected Butler to be good on a national level.  They lost the best player in school history to the NBA.  Howard was the 2008-09 Horizon MVP...but that's still just the Horizon League.

I think by merely asking this question, you now qualify as a racist.

What did Vitale have to say about America's Number One Diaper Dandy, Jason Gasser?

Definitely not, but then again Duke has plenty of other "traditional" players to fill the role.   ;)

At this point, I'm not sure why anyone would ever pick MU to finish in the bottom half of the BEast.  We always seem to be "better than people think."

It's a conspiracy. All the analysts keep us down so they can keep picking Marquette as a sleeper team that is "better than expected."

Being rated below were you should be = blessing.

Being rated above were you should be = curse.

Especially at the start of the year.

Especially if he continues shooting that inconsistantly from the line.

I know its 80 straight wins, I know its amazing how long its gone on, and I know that was the best game they've had in all 80 of those wins. However, I still could not care less (ESPN came in perfectly and showed the last 2 minutes). When you win 80 straight games and this was the first time that it was within 5 pts and only the second time the score was within 10...your sport is not exciting.

BTW, I still think its funny that women's sports have to have different nicknames, especially when all the schools do is put the word "Lady" in front of whatever name they already have.

In the world of securities, it's called violating SEC Rule 10b-5.  In the world of sports and gambling, it's called beating the house.

I'm not implying any fraud or deceit here, but I wouldn't be surprised if a guy like Dick Vitale (or another well-regarded figure in the world of sports) has a lucrative "side job" in Nevada.

What is MU's women's team nickname?  The Lady Golden Eagles?  The Golden Chicks?  The Golden Hens?

I like that the USC women's basketball team is called "The women of Troy", but I could still care less about women's basketball. Unless I personally know a player or her family.

"The women of Troy" is fine, but "The Lady Trojans" would be awesome.

C'mon man! Why do you think we are now Eagles? PC! "Chicks" does not fit into that logic.

Digging the "Golden Chicks" idea.  And to paraphrase Stephen Colbert, "Jason Gasser:  GREAT UW basketball player, or the GREATEST UW basketball player?"
