Has anyone been to Vandy's stadium (Memorial Gymnasium)? If so, what do you think? I'm going to the game in late December, but I'm not quite sure what to expect. I'm sure the crowd won't be as lively considering it's over winter break. Nonetheless, I would think it's a cool stadium to go to given the quirky dimensions and raised floor.
Yes I was there, happened to be in Nashville for work 2 years ago and went to their game with Wake Forest. Definitely a very unique setup -- raised floor, benches on the baselines, and the seating isn't connected all the way around like most arenas. I've attached some pictures from my visit, not sure how to do it without posting the links.

I took the liberty of editing to embed the links. Where's the 2nd picture taken from -- top row 2nd tier? The ceiling certainly frames the picture for you huh?
Looks like an old B10 arena. Ugly.
The dual-pole basket supports are interesting. One of them sits right in the bench area.
The good news is I just bought tickets for my family and we're 16th row just off center court for only $17 each.
NCAA first/second round toury games have been played there in the 90's.

To answer the question if anyone has seen Vandy's arena, if you havn't you must not be a college basketball fan. NCAA first/second round toury games have been played there in the 90's. Vandy has been on CBS and ESPN many times.
I didn't know what it looked like until this thread. I pay attention to the games, not how the seats are laid out.
I like how you can't see the mini jumbo-tron from the upper deck :P
Its an ugly place to play and even worse on TV. Worse than IU's Assembly Hall on TV.
Is Lionel Ritchie still playing with the Commodores?

Yeah, I took that from the 2nd tier. Couldn't believe how it really restricted you to tunnel vision. Interesting place to say the least.
Personally, that's another thing to love about college basketball. Unique arenas. NBA arenas are pretty standard, but as you can see from these pics, never know what you might get with a college venue.

In terms of shape, yes, this is true.
But watch a game in the United Center, then watch one in Madison Square Garden, and you'll experience two different games. Even if the same teams are playing.
MU played there in the Sweet 16 in the NCAAs in 1973 losing to Bob Knight's Indiana team that then beat Kentucky and went on to the Final 4. Besides being a road trip with a lousy outcome for us, I remember how weird it was to watch the game from the endzone seats with the MU bench right in front of us. Plus it rained in Nashville that day and the roof was leaking into our seating area. Just always wondered how such a dump could be a host in the NCAA tournament.
I like it... reminds me of English soccer stadiums.
Thanks, MUBasketball.
Unique arena's (in all sports) are nice the first few times, but I will take good sight lines, wide concourses, and many a beer stand and bathroom for the long haul.
