Digger was the one who would play up the crowd to get them going.

One funny part when he had to tell a group of students to keep it classy after a f*ck Notre Dame chant.

Heard from a lot of people who got pictures with the crew that Digger was an ass while the others were very inviting.

From my experience, Digger was actually pretty cool.

At one point, a kid next to me held up a sign that said, "Did you have to bring Digger?" with an ND logo crossed out. Digger saw it and laughed, he was a good sport. Rece actually saw it and while laughing said, "Can I have that after the game?" It was awesome.

I never really liked Digger, but I've got a lot of respect for him after seeing him yesterday. He ran that show.  It probably wouldnt be the same gameday without him.

Yeah I was really surprised with Digger. Usually I'd say I don't like the guy at all, but it really wouldn't have been the same without him....not to mention he did tell us to do let's go warriors as one of our cheers.

I've never really like Digger, and I still dont.  But with that being said, as it was mentioned earlier, he did run the show and he did a good job running it  Im sure he did the same thing at all the other game day locations, a good job running the show.

I was the one with the "Did you have to bring Digger?" sign. He actually did not like it. He was the first of the hosts to come out on the floor, and the crowd got excited. There were a lot of people cheering, calling to him to look for pictures, etc. He was all smiles and waves. I called to him to show the sign, and when he looked, his face dropped. Later, I was away from my seat, and a different guy held my sign up for Digger and told me he got the same reaction. (Desert Eagle, I'm speaking of Joe.)
Later, I was waiting for Digger's autograph, and he must have remembered me because everyone else was getting a little smile, banter, etc. On the other hand, he looked at me, grabbed my shirt, signed, and moved on without a word. I pissed off Digger Phelps, and I'm sure my dad ('79) couldn't be prouder.

Overall, he was a great part of Gameday, and he really got the students going, but I still don't like him. Overall, students seemed to treat him like any other host. I think most don't realize who he is and the evil he's been a part of.

Also, there were about 20 students waiting at the BC when he came back that afternoon, and we gave him some crap for the ND hat he was wearing.

I thought it was classless the way the students started to chant f ND - what was the point of that?  I would not have been to thrilled if I was him either.  I could not stand the guy when he coached ND but if you have ever seen him on ESPN he says nothing but good things about MU on air and only praises MU - so why would we greet him like that.  I was there and that was completely classless I thought.  So he was hardly treated like the other hosts - no chants of f duke or NC or Detroit???

I meant in general he was treated like any other host. That chant was a small group of people and it was killed quickly.

The man does the tie-lighter, one of the dumbest sportscaster idea, seems like a ND thing to do, maybe him and Harangody can have lunch

After gameday, i don't like the man still but Digger has my respect. He was very professional and reminded the guys that started the f ND chant that this is a coast to coast broadcasting and none of that would be tolerated on tv and that we should show the best Marquette has...I'm sure he took offense to some of the signs, I don't know many ppl that wouldn't at least a little, while he is somewhat of an pretty boy, he's still got my respect when it comes to the job he does.

The one thing I like about Digger is that ND actually has a decent record this year so I don't have to hear him bitch and moan on Selection Sunday about how YET ANOTHER 18-12 Notre Dame team got "jobbed" out of a tourney berth.

That's more or less the definition of bittersweet.

Could easily be the quote of the year.

As has been mentioned before, Digger has treated MU very well over the years.  He never seems to have anything but good things to say about Marquette and often picks them to win and do damage in the NCAAs.  I've noticed this over the years b/c I don't like him much either.

Can someone fill me in on some of the past history with Digger?  I know he coached ND, but was there bad blood for more specific reasons?

Other than that whole "play" thing, what did Mary Todd Lincoln think of John Wilkes Booth?      Sheesh.   What else is there?

Wow, thought is was a fair question.  BTW - the joke is "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, what did you think of the play?"
