Title: why no Singleton?
Post by: mug644 on November 07, 2010, 10:50:59 PM
I see in the J-S write up that "all 13" MU players saw court time on Saturday, and read in another thread that Dave Singleton was in street clothes on the bench. Isn't he a "regular" walk-on like Frozena? Why wasn't he in uniform? I expected that he might get some playing time too.

He's redshirted this year along with Wilson.

Well, not redshirted.  But needs to sit a year as a transfer.

Right. I had forgotten that he is actually a transfer. Interesting though, he transferred to Marquette, but to be a walk-on (at least that was the expectation, despite the speculation that he might be given a scholarship), right? Meaning he is paying his own way this year, but can't play and will pay his own way next year when he can play.

I'm impressed with his commitment to be at MU, assuming that he could've earned a scholarship elsewhere.

Not that it really matters, since he can't play because of transferring, but he was in a boot at Haunted Hoops.

sitting out a year due to transferring is technically a redshirt season.

Unless he redshirted earlier...which he hasn't.

He played two years at High Point, officially redshirting this year, and will have two years remaining.

He comes from some sort of money.  He went to a boarding school that recolection tells me cost about the same as MU does.  Transferred to MU do to the fact that the High Point Univ. coach that signed him is now on the Mu staff.  Similar to a Mo acker situation.  I would doubt that Singleton is ever a scholarship player unless someoen gets hurt or transfers at the last minte.  and then on a one year deal.

From what I heard Singleton is playing as good as any guard on the team. I realize that it is only practice but practice with Coach Williams is a pretty good measure of talent and commitment.

Assuming nothing else changes we only graduate 5 player's in the 2 years he could get a Ship.  3 this year and 2 next.  So that might also work against him.  Anderson has one of the 5.

singleton is not going anywhere....and he can afford the tuition.  Buzz will use the scholly to bring in a nother player and only give the scholly to him if an Mbakwe type thing happens where a guy leaves days before school and no time to fill the scholie.  take that to the bank.
