I've lived here 20 years and this is the first time his name has been mentioned in print in his hometown.

I believe he was one of Majerus' recruits. Not sure I would call him a start, although he may have led us in scoring one year. I don't think he finished school. Does anybody know?
Sims played through his Senior year. I'm not sure if he graduated or not.
On an unrelated note......
Played in a pick up game with him and got an assist from him which I thought was cool as a freshman. He did have to tell me to shoot, I didn't have much poise on the court. Alsoh in the same game I had an 'open' break-away lay-up that Tony Smith swatted and the ball landed in the free throw lane on the next court over which even though he would go on to play in the NBA was still a little embarrassing.
I was at MU for the same 4 years as Sims, 84-88. He was a spot starter and contributor his first three years. His biggest game may have been the 86 UNC game that we lost at the end. A turning point for our program, IMO. We win that game, we are probably ranked and probably make the tourney that year. Maybe Majerus doesn't get run off and maybe we don't end up with Dukiet. His senior year, he was supposed to be the team leader and ended up missing at least some time and maybe most of the season after assaulting his girlfriend. And the Dukiet era entered its death spiral. I chatted with him a few times in college, both of us being from Michigan. Nice guy. Made a large mistake.
Yeah, I was at that 86 game against Carolina. They had Joe Wolf from Kohler on Carolina. That was one of the best environments I ever saw--thr crowd was electric. We actually led for a while but caved in the final minutes.

HUH
Pops was a sophomore the year of the NC game and Mandy Johnson was our starting point guard. I believe Mandy had a great game and we struggled at the end. NC also had Kenny Smith that year and I believe they were ranked #1 when they came into the Mecca. It was a very angry crowd at the end of the game as a lot of fans thought we got screwed by the refs. It wasn't a pretty chapter for fan behavior that afternoon. I believe Dean said he wouldn't play us again. They also happened to have a big man by the name of Brad Daugherty who had a nice career with the Cavaliers. Pops received a decent amount of press at MU for being a stud in the Gus Macker 3 on 3 tournament.
In answer to 77fan88warrior--- Pops sims had a grat shooting game and kept us in it. I believe he was in the high 20's. You're right, I think we did get shafted by the refs. We did miss some easy shots at key times also. Great game and it was fun at Goolsby's afterwards.
