Title: Friendly Smacktalk in ESPN the Mag from Scoop Jardine
Post by: HoopsMalone on November 04, 2010, 05:47:03 PM
On page 75 of the current ESPN the Magazine, Scoop Jardine does a word association for each team.  It is intended to be light-hearted.  For MU, he says:

"Darius Johnson-Odom is my friend.  I guarantee a win because he can't beat me at anything."

I guess "guarantee" is the association for MU.  Pitt picked to win, with Nova in second.  Freeman player of the year.  Fab Melo newcomer of the year.  No other MU mention.

I know he was joking and its nice that DJO and Jardine are friends, but we really need to get Cuse this year.  DJO is gonna drop threes on their 2-3.

It'd be nice to beat Cuse one of these years.  Heck, it'd be our first win against them since joining the BE :(

In fact...last win against the giant orange S, 1983.  Before that?  1943.  And that's all the wins.  We're 2-7 against them, and haven't won in more than two decades.  Just sad...DJO...you're hearing me...right!?!?  If I have to wait until 2023 for another win against Syracuse I'm going to be one pissed MF'er.  40 years between wins to too long.

+1 ... sure hoping MU delivers against the Orange this year.  Too many Cuse alums in these parts!

It's too bad we didn't get a DWade v. Melo final in 2003 in the MU/Cuse matchup.  People would be writing sonnets about that game now.

We really needed to get them the Amigo's senior year.  That was a good close game.  DJ's defense would have made the difference against Flynn.

Agree, got to get the monkey off our backs.  We're beaten Louisville and WVU twice, and everyone else 3 or more times.

Weren't we up by like 15 at the Carrier Dome last year? And don't remind me of the Jonny Flynn game at the BC a couple years ago. Heartbreaker!

I am declaring Syracuse my Public Enemy #1 for the year.

January 29th, National Marquette Day.

I think you're reversing what happened last year.  MU's biggest lead was 7 with 4:26 left in the first half. Syracuse went on a big run about 5 minutes into the 2nd half and MU trailed by as much as 16 before making a late push in the last few minutes, with the final score indicating a much closer game than it was, 72-76.

And I was at the Carrier Dome two years ago (when, incidentally, Syracuse honored Derrick Coleman). They pretty much dominated us from the beginning, and we never exerted pressure on them, but allowed them to run, get in the lane, and get every rebound. We lost big and I got real drunk.

I'm reporting this idiot to the moderator!  We're 2-7 against them, not 7-2!!!

Syracuse is evil and Must be destroyed!

and I'm not even kidding. The entire city not just the basketball team needs to be wiped from the face of the earth.

I've never been to a more depressing place.

To quote Obi Wan "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."
