DJO is our next NBA player. I said very early last season that he's a better player than McNeal ever was and I stand by that statement. He's smarter, more physical and a MUCH better shooter. Absolutely love him. He's the most exciting player we've had since Wade.
Incidentally, I know a lot of people were in love with James' athleticism, but in my opinion we haven't missed him one iota. I don't expect that to change with Junior at the point.
I think Butler will be the next pro becuase of his overall game and he has the skill set to play the 2 and 3 at the NBA level. James had our team at 23-4 and 12-2 in the Big East when he broke his foot. He was having a great Sr Season. 11pts, 3.5 rb, 5 assists, 2.1 steals, and a 2.7/1 assists to turnover ratio. He was not shooting FT's well but his FG % was Ok at .424. He is 2 years removed from MU so why would you even talk about missing him? When was our last point guard that lead us to 4 staight NCAA tournaments?

As portrayed by our performance without James in the NCAA tournament?...Dominic did a lot of little things with his athleticism that went unnoticed...one big one being able to finish at the rim. Anytime you lose your 4 year starting PG you are going to miss him...come on.
However, I do think that Junior is our best PG since Dominic. A little different style with the respect that he may not be as quick, but uses his body VERY well to control the ball and hold off defenders. I'm interested to see how he fnishes at the hoop while keeping a defender on his hip. I like his ability to exploit smaller guards who try to guard him. (kind of saw this a little bit with Reggie trying to guard him at MM)
We have a lot to be excited about at the Guard positions this year with Junior, DJO, Byucks, Reggie, and Vander. I'm hoping they can all contribute!!

Agree with all of your above assesment. I remember seeing DJO play for the first time - during the Old Spice Classic against Xavier, Michigan and FSU - he was a revelation...remember posting/writing here that he had "it," and probably will leave the program as the best player since Wade..

The thing I loved most about DJ was his ability to totally shut down the other team's PG. Even if DJ didn't have a good offensive game, you could be fairly sure the other PG wasn't going to go off on MU.

His senior year, James' defense was amazing to watch. He had several games where he completely shut down the other PG.
James learned that if he was going to go pro anywhere he could no longer rely on what he had done his first three years. Taking care of the ball, finding his teammates, and playing solid D - sums up his senior year. His amazing talents took a backseat to being a team player. Great for him, and great for the team.
DJO is awesome.

I agree that DJO may be better then McNeal. The key with McNeal was that he improved so well in the middle of his career and then seemed to regress down the stretch a bit. Don't think that will happen with Odom.
I disagree on James. For one, he was more exciting to me then Odom to this point. James' package was so unique in that short bust jumping ability. His block on Scotty Hopson was epic. His many efforts to run back and challenge a breakout were impressive. Pick any reverse alley-oops from the alley, wow.
Secondly, not sure we can say he's not missed. Its been one season. We'll know more after this season to be fair to Cadougan since we've never seen him full throttle but a four-year starter isn't easily replaced.
Finally, James' defense is where he will most likely hold an advantage to those that follow him. To me, his shutting down of Deonta Vaughan and holding him scoreless in that 30 point ass kicking a couple years ago is one of the best performances I've seen in an MU uniform.
It's funny to watch this episode (another great one) and think about how, in two months, Homer will do his dorky interview of DJO, which will pale in comparison.

Haha I noticed this, you'd think however is "directing" this video would have told him to put it in his desk. I'm guessing its not the exact image the marketing people have in mind.

I love watching the revelations! Really great to witness the relationship between Buzz and the players. He is tough on them, yet you can feel the love and vice versa. It makes you feel proud to be a Marquette Warrior. Can't wait to watch this team play!

Besides the fabulous player that DJO has turned out to be, i love that he also seems to be just as fabulous of a person off the court, the kind we want representing Marquette University.
One thing i like a lot in watching these videos is that Buzz seems to have not only recruited many good basketball players, but also many fine young men off the court. I don't know any of these players at all personally, but in looking at them from afar, none seem like high risk trouble making thugs or me first show boaters.
Like everyone else, i obviously want Buzz to bring in kids that end up winning plenty of games. That said, not at the expense of bringing in a bunch of malcontents who just happen to being blessed with great skills at playing basketball and we then would have to simply hope they don't do something to embarrass the program.
Sure it's always possible that one of these kids on the MU team ends up doing something pretty bad off the court, but i'd be surprised to see it happen.
