I know some of you are Notre Dame football fans. It amazes me that this school still can't get it right in the last decade. What I saw at the end of today's game was high school coaching. At home, to TULSA. Wow. Maybe Kelly gets it going, it's only year one so unfair to judge a coach that quickly, but wow. You're in FG range, have a great kicker, why are you throwing the ball in the end zone with a freshman QB?
You have to give Kelly at least 5 yrs though, right? ;)
Well, you have to give Kelly some time, but ND has been sliding down the scale of college football relevancy for the past 20 years. This is simply continuation of a trend.

5 years before anoint and slobbering
Much less if coach is clearly in over his head ( which is not what I'm saying here, but I am surprised at yesterday's decisions)
Favorite thing about this new guy is the way he says "Notre" with the French pronunciation but "Dame" with the American pronunciation. Tool.
Who the hell cares about No Dick football?
Why take up space on this board with ND football, which is totally irrelevant? They would be eaten alive in the Big 10-11-12--whatever it will be named next year!
I love Notre Dame football!!!
I mean, I don't watch it or follow the team, but I sure like reading how most of the games end.

Haugh agrees...believe he is a Domer too.

This loss and others to mid-majors begs to question why ND does not join the BE for football. Joining the B10 gets them blow-out regularly in football. If you are going to lose a buy game at home to a Tulsa or Navy, why not to Pitt in the BE if this helps to secure a bigger TV payout for the BE (with less $$ to share with the B10 if the result is a BETV channel?). They are holding themselves (and others back) by not joining a football conference....I just think they have more to gain if they play their cards right with the BE: ESPN wants to keep the BE together, less football competition, an automatic BCS spot which is easier to gain, ND can call the shots.
ND football has become irrelevant nationally. They lost back-to-back games against Navy and Tulsa and the college football world yawned. Can you imagine what a big deal those losses would have been 5, 10, 15 years ago? Now, it hardly even gets noticed.

There is really no way a BE TV network would make more money per team than the BTN, but you are correct that ND could certainly leverage its way to a better deal with the BE. The B10 isn't going to give them anything.
Couldn't happen to a better university!

I am sure you are right about the economics of the BTN. However, Notre Dame would deliver the football viewing audience from Chicago to the Eastern seaboard...with only Penn State in the way. ESPN might be willing to pay for that, as might COMCAST/NBC.
That said, being an independent in football, I think we can agree, looks dumber by the week. The alumni are disgusted by the October showing--accident and losses all.

A thread is talking about ND football at a Marquette Basketball site. Once people stop talking about the program, then people can claim the program is irrelevant.

Gotta admit, he's got a point.

Fair enough, although there are quite a few MU fans/alums who root for ND football, not to mention that there are quite a few MU fans/alums who hate all things ND and enjoy seeing their teams struggle. That's why I said it is irrelevant
nationally. You don't see ESPN or CBS or ABC spending a lot of time discussing the sorry state of ND football, do you?
