Title: Suggestion: User ratings- positive feedback from reliable/positive Scoopers...
Post by: TomW1365 on October 27, 2010, 03:34:01 PM
It would be cool to have a "like" or "dislike" button next to comments/posts from MU Scoop's users... it would show how reliable/interesting of info generally comes from certain individuals (having a high % of positive comments).  It would also provide some perspective of how much credence to give a user who has low positive feedback... there are many users who can't wait to "pile on" on an honest mistake/misstatement.

Lame. Who cares if someone agrees or disagrees with you? Make your own conclusion and post.

Just look at the number of posts by the person's name.  There's a correlation there, just not sure whether it's negative or positive.  Some days it seems to be one way, others the complete opposite.  Go figure.

Seriously... wouldn't you get a lot of voting on sentiment, not content???  Even some of the most dedicated Scoopers like to be told what we want to hear.  For instance, someone could say that Jimmy Butler just transferred to UW.  Even if it were true, people would vote "dislike," thus completely contradicting the original purpose of the ratings.

After you've been around for a couple months, it's pretty easy to tell whose word/opinion is as good as gold (e.g. BMA), who is just a complete moron (see some threads from today... it's pretty obvious), and who really doesn't have a clue but likes to speculate and/or is killing time at work (e.g. yours truly).

let arguments stand on merit.  Agree or disagree with reasons I think.

Fixed.

Dislike.  This isn't a popularity contest.  Consistently post good $h1t, and people will consistently read your $h1t.  Post crap, and get a bad rap.

Exactly.  Karma on forums with relatively small active communities turns into a popularity circle-jerk.  It's great in theory, but it just ends up hurting my feelings... I mean *other* people's feelings :P
