List your favorites. Just loved this quote from Rosiak's transcript - thought it was a PERFECT summation of Buzz:
Is there a chip on the shoulders of the guys coming back with regard to how you guys lost in the NCAA tournament: “It’s hard to be around me and not have a chip on your shoulder, and if for some reason I perceive you don’t have a chip on your shoulder, I’ll help you create one. It was a hard way to go out. The flip side of that is we went out the same way we got in. And when you look at the 21 Big East competitions that we played last year and the margin plus or minus, it’s never happened in our league. I hope that it never happens again to us. That’s why I gained about 30 pounds. But I think that it all grew us up, and I think our bottle was tipped over every day and we got to see what we were. How is it going to play out this year? I don’t know. But when we get in that situation again – which we will – we’ll at least have some guys that have experienced the appropriate way to handle it.”
-
"It's not about me. It will never be about me. It will only, and always be about those players on the court."
That says a lot.
-
"We need to grow our hair out to protect our brains so we don't forget how to play like us."
-
This team will never be about one of the sons. It will always be about all of the sons.
(paraphrased after the Maymon situation)
-
If he actually said it: "I'm like a turtle, I remember everything."
I know that's someone's tagline, but I think that is hilarious. If he did say it, what was the context?
-
I agree. Discovering the neccesary "chip on the shoulder" is a must with squads that play hard, fast and are a bit undersized.
-
He did say it. It was in one of the radio shows from the annex. I will try to find the proof.
-
I cant remember the exact wording of it, but didn't he say something like "in life, God keeps giving you the same test until you pass it" last year when we had a bajillion close losses in a row? Whatever it was, I was a big fan of the line at the time

I think the quote about creating the chip on the shoulder is my favorite. It says so much about Buzz's philosophy and how he has gotten to where he is. If he can continue to get guys who buy in to his line of thinking, I have no doubt he will continue to be successful and overachieve every year.
That being said, Buzz is really, really weird. I love, but he is weird.
-
"We need to grow our hair out to protect our brains so we don't forget how to play like us."
this is definitely my favorite. Last year was SOOOOO much fun. Although we all probly lost a few years on our life.

See tagline.
-
Buzz likes to use the phrase, "I don't mean that in an XXX way".
For instance, he'll say something like, "I am a horrible basketball coach"
pause
"I don't mean that in a negative way"
pause
"It's just that I haven't accomplished nearly as much as Coach Calhoun"
-
My tagline is my favorite Buzzism.
-
"Sports don't build character, they reveal it." "Our character was revealed." "Relative to...."
-
"Erik/Fulce/Chris/PLAYER is terrible right now but he's my guy"
-
My tagline is my favorite Buzzism.
"...and I don't mean this in an egotistical or condescending way...."
I'm thinking about adding this line before every sentence I speak.
-
From Media day today....
"Half of our team is old and half of our team is new. But half of the old guys are really still new.''
-
not quite a buzzism but I'd like to point out that every time I got a autographed by Buzz Williams he printed his name

haha...a bit of Yogi Berra from Buzz...!!
-
"We have to figure out who we are as men before we can figure out who we're going to be collectively as men."
-
I'm trying to find it but I remember Buzz saying how he made the team gather in a circle and pray right when Yous hit his first basket in practice last year, which was in like January, haha.
If was kind of a random quote but cracked me up.
-
"I'm not smart enough to do anything but coach basketball."
-
"I’m not a big believer in Kumbaya meetings."
-
"I looked up Magic Pills on the internet and nothin' came up."

I chuckled at this-
One writer asked how practice was going Williams replied, "on Friday I would have bought my team. By Saturday sold them. Monday the market was closed."
-
"Old people live in the past, young people live in the future, wise people live in the present."
-
Regarding the upcoming scrimmage with Virginia:
"We've practiced 12 times. Our guys want to do something different. They need a day, a chance of pace, and they're excited. It'll be good. One way or another, it's going to be good. Because if something goes bad, it's good, too, because we get to make it good."
-
"Anything you compromise on, in order to keep, you will eventually lose."

On going into this 2010 season with Buycks injured and the PG spot needing to be held down by Junior/Reggie:
"At least we have some bodies over there that look like they might play the point. Yeah, I do like that," said Williams. "It does make me anxious that combined they have six total minutes of playing time in Division I. But one way or another, Saturday morning when they wake up, we'll have doubled or tripled or quadrupled that amount.
"And I have a feeling that it could turn into quadruple turnovers, too."

New favorite:
It’s easy to get caught up in the hype surrounding the game. How important is the preparation going in, and the emphasis on doing the same things you always do: “I want beavers. I want beavers around me. I want to hire beavers, I want to recruit beavers. Beavers do only one thing – they chop trees. That’s all beavers do. Those are the kind of people I want to be around other than my wife, and that’s it. I want people who all they do is ball, all they think about is ball. My life in so many ways is really boring because it’s like groundhog day every day, you know what I mean? There’s very little variety in what I do. If there is any variety, it’s an hour and a half at a time, change of pace. Relative to preparation for Wisconsin, I promise it’s the same for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Centenary. We never change that. We play at UWM, we’re staying in a hotel – it’s a road game. Two nights before, this is what we do. One day before, this is what we do. It’s groundhog day, and our guys know that. We’ll do the same thing with Wisconsin.”

On recruiting JUCO's:
"I like those guys who have never been on a charter bus much less a charter plane," Williams said. "I like those guys who never stayed in a hotel that, when you open the door, it goes into the hall, not to the outside. Never stayed at a hotel that has a pool much less a weight room. I like the fact that they've had pregame and postgame meals from the same fast-food joint. I think they have an edge to prove something, and I identify with that edge because of my heritage in the business."

The dance on the sideline was my favorite buzz moment. I hope he sports the baby blue blazer again this year.

When you pee in the country you want to pee as far away from yourself as possible. That's the way we want to dribble. You don't need to dribble as if your peeing on yourself.

After Seton Hall, opening line on the post-game interview w/ Homer, "You think my tractor's sexy now?"
