With Jeronne Maymon's college basketball career on hold until December, Tennessee will begin the season without its starting forward, at least in Vols coach Bruce Pearl's mind.

"We're going to play the first semester without him, instead of waiting for him to come, if you follow what I'm saying," Pearl said Wednesday at Tennessee Media Day in Knoxville when asked about Maymon, a 6-foot-6 mid-season transfer last year from Marquette who is sitting out one year per NCAA transfer rules.

"We'll be minus him. That's the position he should put himself in. I don't know if he'll be in that position, but that's the thing he should try to be in, that we're missing our starting forward, if that's possible for him. So we won't be waiting until a few days before the game to know what to do with him."

The game to which Pearl refers would be the Dec. 11 game at Pittsburgh, which would the first -- according to the coach -- after Maymon's final exam first semester.

My Bruce Pearl is a little rusty, but I think that this is what he means: Maymon should prepare like he'll be starting during the fall semester even though he won't be able to play until Pittsburgh.

I think that means that Pearl is still not sure what kind of committment he can get from his daughter in regards to helping Maymon in certain aspects of his 'game'
