Chicos:16-16, could be 32-0 with a couple of good breaks or 0-32 if things don't go our way, but likely somewhere in between.

Last year nearly everyone had us 11th or 12th. This year I've seen projections everywhere from 6th to 12th. Lots of question marks, but I lean to the optimistic: 7th place, 10-8, 24-10. NCAA tournament, one win.

I know, just teasing on the extremes

I'll tell ya after the Duke game.  If anyone has any idea who will be in the top 4 for average minutes and points AND willing to put $100 on that prediction, I'll take you up.  My point is that much like every year Buzz has started, we will probably see a team with a different strategy than the other two years.  So its tough to tell who we are going to struggle with and who we match up well with.  We went from playing a "fast break" offense to a three point shooting team.  The way Buzz has been able to pick a strategy and coach his players to execute that strategy allows me to think that we will be fine, have another 10 win BE season, and make the tourney again.

I bet we're back to more of a fastbreak offense with the added depth and the loss of good 3 point shooters.

No toes hurt.  I think the first year (maybe 2) we had an overall season prediction contest, but nobody ran it last year (or two...).  Anyhow, if someone wants to put together a "format" of a contest, and track it, we'd be happy to have the help.

I think (hope) SoCal will be doing the game by game predictions again (though I know it's still tedious to do), but that's a different beast entirely.

Chicos and Lenny will argue.    marquette84 will take a position that the entire board will argue with.   williewarrior will complain if we don't win every game by 20.    A new screen name will pop up full of obnoxiousness and innuendo, the mods will figure out it is the same yahoo who has tried it 20 other times and ban him.   ners will stake out an optimistic position.    zfb and forever will continue their vaguely homoerotic bromance.      Oh, about the actual basketball season?   No idea.

Gonna go slightly optimistic and say 12-6 in the Big East.  5 seed NCAA tourney.  Advance to Sweet 16.

Non-conference Schedule: 11-2
Big East Regular Season Record: 13-5
Big East Tourney: 2-1
NCAA Tourney: 2-1

Final Record: 28-9

In the non-conference, I see us losing one of our CBE matches, while we might shock Duke, we'd still face a stern test against K-State or the Zags. I expect us to lose to Duke and pull off the other, but Marquette virtually always makes the title game of our preseason tourney, so maybe we get the upset. I also think going to Vandy will be a very tough outing, which I see as our other non-conference loss.

In the Big East, I think we will finally finish top four. I am expecting the road games at Pitt, 'Nova, and Notre Dame to be losses. I think we'll go 50-50 against Georgetown, Louisville, and the two UConn games. Add in one more unexpected loss and that gets us to our best ever Big East record. I'm also picking this as the year we finally get the Syracuse monkey off our back. We have to beat those guys some time, and having them at home with what might be the most talented Marquette squad top-to-bottom we've seen since Al's time, I think we can do it.

In the Big East tournament, as much as I want to see us hang a banner, I think we come up just short. Getting the double bye and making the final will be a nice feather in Buzz's cap, but I just don't see us getting over that hump as of yet. However, I do see us finally making the second weekend of the NCAA tournament. After a strong Big East season and a good tournament, MU draws a 4 seed that is good enough to see us win our pod. Probably lose a nail-biter to a #1 seed, but I'd still consider that a pretty successful season.

i would like to think that we will finish fifth and up in conference.  Last year I was confident with a senior star in Lazar and two senior guards.  this year I think we are a far more talented team with huge upside, but i am worried about taking care of the ball.  I agree that we are probably going to see more fast paced game.

Fourth in conference sweet sixteen.  Talent rises baby.

Hey, I started the same thread last year on October 27th.

http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=15797.0

A couple of observations:

1. I was wrong about Erik Williams
2. I thought Buycks would be better than DJO!  :o
3. Cubillan was absent from any contribution (sorry Cubes, I completely dissed you.)

Also look at my prediction about the team having more length last year!

I had us going out in the 1st round of the NCAAs as an 11th seed-- not losing to an 11th seed!

This year I am far less confident in my prediction only because the newcomers are such giant question marks at this point in time.  However, I am an optimist so here it goes.

Regular Season: 23-8
Big East Regular Season Record: 12-6
Big East Tourney: 2-1
NCAA: 2-1

In Buzz I Trust!

I think the conventional wisdom is something darn near Victor's initial prediction.  Sitting here today, if myself from the future told me today that MU wouldn't win 21, 22 or 23 games this year, I would be shocked.

If one were to assume that history repeats itself yet again, my predictions would be as follows:

1) A key injury will happen (i.e. the player, the timing or the length will have the appearance of being "devastating" to the Warrior season).
2) Marquette will win at least half of the games Vegas expects it to lose.
3) Marquette will cover the spread in the remainder of those expected losses.
4) Buzz Williams will be the most "rumored" coach when the carousel starts.

22-9 (11-7 BE)
1-1 in both tourneys

If [spoken as though the word has 28 i's and 6 f's), what I believe is about to happen comes to fruition:

1) Marquette upsets Duke at the CBE but lays an egg in the next game (due to the six-man rotation taking its toll).
2) MU rolls into BE play with only one loss ranked somewhere between #20 and one of the top five RV.
3) MU plays to expectations during the first half of BE play, with a stunning win at Louisville in OT but a baffling loss at Rutgers.
4) MU goes on a tear in the second half, losing to Villanova on Feb 2, but winning the remainder until Cincy comes to town a month later.
5) MU will earn the 4 seed in the BET by virtue of tie-breakers over Syracuse and UCONN.  Will lose in the semis to the eventual champion (Georgetown).
6) Takes care of business in the first weekend of the tournament; flames out to a team that went into the tourney with lesser expectations.

In other words -- the team is going to show a lot of potential, with hints of greatness, but in the end will succumb to a lack of consistency.

25-6 (14-4 BE)
1-1 BET, 2-1 NCAAT

I realize my prediction was pretty much the conventional wisdom and a relatively conservative prediction. But its hard to ignore the past 5 years, as that is pretty much what has happened every year. This team plays well enough to get a little national publicity, finish respectably in a very good conference, and make the dance in the 5-10 seed range. There's nothing wrong with that, especially if they can do it again this year, which I think they will. There have been a few years where more should have been expected (especially the 3 amigos last year), but such a finish this year should be viewed as a positive IMO.

Now, I would be ecstatic if your second prediction came true, but I just don't see us getting through this season with only 6 losses. I don't think a Sweet 16 appearance is completely unreasonable though, we just have to get hot at the right time.

Aw, shucks.

Wow .. Pudner at 13-5 is understandable .. BMA at 13-5 also said ". I think the Big East is going to be down this year, more so than years past." ..???
