I know it really doesn't mean much...but an 8 seed playing 9 seeded Texas Tech? I thought they almost always tried to avoid regular season matchups at least until the Sweet 16...
You're correct. Bracketologist Joe Lunardi is not.
I'd much rather be a 11 seed than an 8 or 9. I'll take my chances up against a team like Indiana or Boston College so that if you win you get a 3 seed who is probably someone that 3 weeks ago we would have felt was on our level. Playing for the right to face Wisconsin or Ohio State does turn me on much. Would 2 more loses get us a 111 or 12 seed?
The committee would avoid that matchup so we would in all likelihood be paired up with Stanford or Xavier. If that were the case, I don't know much about Xavier but the twin tower Lopez boys would eats us up for lunch. I don't think any of our bigs would match up with them.
They might as well just go ahead and book their trip to the final 4 with that bracket.
For some reason their is always one bracket each year that is the "Mid-Major" bracket where their are a bunch of excellent Mid majors and a few OK major schools.
I would love to be in a bracket like that as your team is only taking on an opponent and you are not taking on an opponent and the aura of the program.
For instance I would much rather play a #3 SIU than a #10 Kentucky just because their is some sort of fear that people have going against a Kentucky even though they are not great. Yet when you play SIU you are playing a team and not the reputation
The Wisconsin bracket is an absolute bear. No easy game but the first for the Badgers if that were to come true
I don't know about that. I think I'd rather play a mid-major if it was a high seed. (I'd rather play #3 SIU than #3 G-town or Pitt-ignore our experience with them.) But I think I'd rather play a major team if they were a lower seed. (#11 Illinois rather than #11 Winthrop or Missouri State.) It just seems like the double-digit seeds that make runs in the tourney don't come from the big conferences.
yeah 8 or 9 is not what I want... would gladly take an 11 or 12 over 8 or 9

Heh... Reputation or not, I do NOT want SIU in round two. That team is very, very good. Falker would be tough to guard down low, Shaw is a very difficult to match-up against, and their backcourt is talented, too, with Tatum and Young.
#10 Kentucky or a #3 SIU
I will feel much more confident playing a Number three SIU even though they are probably better than Kentucky.
From a fan perspective if we were to play SIU in round 2 we would probably have 90 percent of the board thinking we could beat them
yet if we play a UK, or an MSU, or an Illinois I think that number goes down to 60 percent just based on perception
i am not putting down the Valley teams
I would just breathe a little easier if they were in our bracket
What Sub-Regional would rather be in if you had a choice; Lets assume that MU is a 6 seed which I think is what we end up if we play alright towards the end
Choice 1
#14 Seed Wright State
#3 Seed SIU
#6 Seed Marquette
#11 Seed Winthrop
or
#14 Seed Holy Cross
#3 Seed Georgetown
#6 Seed Marquette
#11 Seed Stanford
I am taking choice one as i think that is a much easier route to the regionals
