On Friday, members of both the Chicago-area Bloom and Brother Rice 2000 high school basketball teams will take part in a rematch between the two schools as part of Fox Sports Net's Replay series. Sponsored by Gatorade, the pairing hopes to serve as a bit of closure after Bloom won a highly-contested (both in game, and after it) 42-40 Super Sectional win, after Joe Chapman managed a tip in around (some say before, some say after) the final seconds ticked off the clock.
Carlos Boozer(notes) has been named the Game Day Commissioner for Replay Season 3. As commissioner, Boozer led pep rallies at both schools this week, which included playing a game of H.O.R.S.E. against a member of each team. And on game day he'll meet with both teams prior to tip off, and help select the Replay Season 3 Most Valuable Player.
Dwyane Wade and Dwight Howard are serving as honorary coaches for Replay Season 3. (Dwight with Brother Rice; Wade with Bloom.) Both NBA stars conducted a practice with their respective teams this summer, and on game day both will be in the locker rooms and on the bench with the squads, advising players and coaches throughout.
More on Wade's connection...
*In 2000, this very same Brother Rice team knocked out Wade's Richards High team out of the state playoffs. So in coaching Bloom at Replay, Wade can exact a certain measure of revenge.
*Bloom's Joe Chapman, who tipped in the controversial winning shot at the buzzer to eliminate Brother Rice, went on to play with Wade on the 2003 Marquette Final Four team. So now Wade is coaching his former college teammate.
Tickets are ten bucks a pop, and can be bought either on game day or at Bloom or Brother Rice. If you can't make it, the game will be shown live on Replay's website, Comcast's Chicago area website, and locally in Chicago on Comcast SportsNet on Saturday at 3 p.m., and on Sunday at 7 p.m., Central time.

Tickets for this game were sold out w/n 5 minutes at Brother Rice and 2 hours at Bloom. As a B.R and MU alum, I've been turning over every rock to find some tickets. I know 2 reporters that are covering the game... no dice (yet). My friends (and brother) that are former B.R. players that played from 96-03 can't even find tickets! Either way, can't wait to watch this game in person or on TV.
Tune in if you can!
If joe chapman is there he should score 42+ by himself!
Are we gonna have to wait 9 years to play Missouri again and this time they have to use the guy who gets fouled to take the shots?
Are any of the players currently still playing semi-professionally? it could be really lopsided if one team all entered the real world and aren't in shape.

Joe Chapman is still playing professionally in Europe. He'll ruin these other jokers.
Here's his most recent stats (http://www.eurobasket.com/player.asp?Cntry=MEX&PlayerID=39490&AmNotSure=1):
2009-2010: Newcastle Eagles (United Kingdom-BBL): 29 games: 18.5ppg, 3.6rpg, 2.6apg, FGP-3(65.9%), 3PT: 38.1%, FT: 67.6%
Chapman seems like he was held back in the crean system

Part of the "Replay" series is that all the participants have been getting paid to train with professionals for weeks, so the fact that Joe is still playing will be minimalized.
Brother Rice had a number of players on that team that played in college, including point guard Vince Greene (Illinois State). I covered him in high school for a local newspaper, and he was one of the best slashing guards during his era.
I'll bet that the game will be tight just like the last one, and probably won't be decided until the final minute, again.
Go Crusaders!!!

Yeah... Illinois State always pulls down great talent :P
What kind of Uncle Rico s*** is this?!?
Just was able to get tickets... Man I got lucky. These are the toughest tickets to get in town! I should have called the family of a former MU recruit and Brother Rice's only North Carolina National Champion earlier!
I wouldn't normally root against a Wade coached, Chapman lead team, but this one's a no-brainer. The Crusaders got screwed last time. Go Rice!

Despite knowing a couple guys playing in this game on Rice's team (one of which is an MU grad...and probably reader of this board)....and despite admitting the fact they got screwed in that supersectional game...being a Marist graduate, it is almost impossible for me to root for BR. For the Wisconsinites on this board, I would equate it to rooting for Madison basketball.
Anyway, I know these guys have been training for a couple of months...not just weeks. Both teams have dedicated coaches, a registered dietitian and I believe a strength and conditioning coach. Both teams are flying guys back to Chicago to play in this. So, needless to say, it is being taken very seriously by both sides. Should be a very interesting game. Go Trojans!
Marty Masterson was a beast in Intramurals.
If you are on the board, remember your best supervisor ever and win that game!

B-Kelly? Lynch... is this you? Rooting for Bloom?!? Come on man.
There's 2 guys on Rice's team that went to Marquette right? Masterson and MacKinnon I think...

Joe Chapman says: Hide yo kids Hide yo wife!
Is Antoine Dodson Joe's Doppelganger? No offense to Chapman, but I couldn't put my finger on who J-Chap looked like until this morning...

From 1982 - 2002 (Pre D-Wade Era) MU went to the tournament seven (7) times.
During that same time period Illinois State went four times (1983, 1990, 1997, 1998)
ISU isn't the bottom of the barrel to say the least.

That '97 and '98 team was was lead by Rico Hill... He was a stud... and former Brother Rice standout who lead us passed a Donovan McNabb and Antoine Walker led Mt Carmel Caravan in the Sectionals.

I agree, and Vince Greene is in the top-10 of a number of ISU's all-time categories (FT%, steals, assists, 3-pt FG%).
Per my original point, as much as I love Joe as a MU alum, he might not even be the best player on the court tonight.
