I've never heard any coach use the "Talent vs TalentED" metaphor, but I love it. There are a ton of players in every sport who are talented, but don't reach their full potential b/c they don't have that Extra Dimension. It's pretty clear that Buzz defines that extra dimension as toughness, which I'm sure encompasses quite an array of traits a player has. Regardless, I love the message and can't wait to see him bring out the "ED" in the new guys.

Heard Buzz say Reggie Smith is a pure point - so we can end any speculation of him playing the 2 at Marquette.  It will either be he or Cadougan on the floor, we'll never see them together - unless Buzz wants to re-live the 2009 season where he had 2 small guys in the lineup..Acker and Cooby..but we know JC and Reggie don't shoot the 3 like Mo and Cooby...so probably not.

If I had to guess, Junior gets about 25 minutes, Reggie 15.

It could be neither. Buycks can play the 1, so can Vander.

Why I would class Reggie as a point guard, I think you are ignoring the fact that Buzz wants his players to be able to play multiple positions. I do not see why Smith would be ruled out playing the two.

really?  I remember this same time period last year and then especially after Junior went down this board and many posters posting ad nauseum about how Buycks and DJO could play the point.   Please playing the point in JUCO and playing the point in the BE are galaxies apart.

What in anything you saw last year from Buycks, be it his skill set or decison making, makes u think he could possibly play the point for Mu this year?

I like Buycks, I think he is a decent player, but he is in no way a point guard at this level.

I dont think anyone was talking about DJO running the point last year. At least I wasnt...he had alot of turnovers in JUCO and never seemed like a PG at all.

I'm not saying Buycks is a 30 mpg Big East PG...but can he give 5 MPG? I think he can.

Did you watch the video?...At the 1:30 mark, referring to the PG position, Buzz Says:

"I think Buycks can shift over here, I think Vander can shift over here..."

I'm just basing this off of what Buzz said - that Reggie is a pure point guard.  I know some questioned this, as he was thought to be more of a scoring guard - but there is nothing wrong with a point guard that can score the ball well too.  Additionally, with all of the talent at the 2 position - Blue, Buycks, DJO - I just don't see Reggie playing the 2.  Why shift Blue/Buycks down to the 1, when they (at least Buycks) best served playing the 2?

As a player, you have to love when a coach says, "the 5 toughest guys are the ones that are going to get to play."

Play your a** off everyday, and you'll get a shot.

Great stuff.

I dont know if its good or bad, but it looks like three of the starting spots are up for grabs.

Also, it looks like EWill is third on Buzz's board for the 4 spot.  I was hoping he would be a little farther along by this point.

3rd behind Fulce and Crowder. Not exactly a condemnation.

Buzz said..." media wise, and on the message boards, the questions are...."

Is this his inadvertant evidence/reference to Buzz reading the posts here?

If he does read here:....welcome MilwyCoach!

The 3 available spots is most likely a motivating tool. We lost 3 starters, so 3 spots. If the players all see playing time available, and Buzz tells them the 5 toughest will play, he will get them all to fight as hard as they can to get on the floor. I totally believe Buzz is being 100% honest, but I am sure he has an idea of his starting 5 right now.

Right now it may be Fulce 1, Crowder 2 and Erik Williams 3.  However, it may be very close and if fouls or health become issues, It will be great to have Erik Williams ready and able.  I really think the #2 point guard will be the guy that can bring the ball up without turning it over and who has the ability to direct the offense and pass.  Is that Buycks, Smith, Blue or DJO?
