Anyone else heard about this? They talked about it on Bob and Brian this morning. Heard the audio, pretty crazy

Basically, Dukie V was on the phone to a Tennessee radio station while he was at a restaurant with friends. He didn't know he was on the air, the DJs tried to tell him but then just listened while he discussed Florida with his friends. DV is heard telling his friends that Billy Donovan "confidentially" told him that NBA teams should draft Horford over Noah. Doesn't matter if he was on the radio, shouldn't be spilling that stuff to anyone if its confidential. A little later Florida official's call DV back and yell at him, then DV calls back to the radio station and yells at them on the air, saying he was joking. Pretty crazy stuff. Sounds like DV is gonna be in some hot water and will have some apologizing to do.

NBA teams should draft Horford over Noah.
Doesn't everybody already know that?

Yeah but when you have people revealing that your coach told them that, it gets sticky. Plus the national media eventually gets that. Not good, especially since Noah came back to play for Donovan instead of going for the certain money.
personally i think the hosts showed a lack of journalistic integrity by not taking him live off the air when they realized they were not talking to him. bush league soccer sh*t if you ask me.
granted, dukie v has to watch what he says too.
I don't see the controversy here. He didn't know he was on the air, he was talking to a buddy of his, it's not like he was giving out some incredible secret, and doesn't just about every expert think Horford should be drafted over Noah? Chad Ford even wrote about it today in his blog on espn.com.
i like the part of the article where it says vitale is more of a publicist than an analyst
Why are we supposed to care about this? If anyone should be in trouble, its Billy D.
It's somewhat important because it's a chink in the armor of an incredibly annoying guy that dominates the landscape of college basketball. Anything that may inhibit that is worth writing about.
Its important because he says "You know what someone told me in confidence ......Billy Donovan told me Horford over Noah" How would we like it, especially the players if Dickie came out and said TC told him that Jerel was better than DJ or Wesley? Now it was a "personal" conversation, and he didn't know he was on the radio, but if its confidential why is he sharing it AT ALL?
I realize its not really relivent to us, thats why I said OT. However, I think DV could get in some serious trouble with this one. Not only has he potentially build a source with Billy Donovan, a lot of coaches may not talk to him.....weakening his insider knowledge which is the only reason analysts have jobs, because they have inside info and access that can explain to us. Also he called back later and tried to say he was joking. He comes off as a liar as well.
Also agree.....shows completely unprofessional behavior from the radio guys. They knew he wasn't hearing them, take him off the mike until you get it straightened out.
The only lasting impact this will potentially have is on Donovan and Noah relationship. I don't think it will stick to Vitale. By the way, has anyone else noticed that he's seemed to call fewer games this year?
Yes, I noticed he has called way less games. That is b/c Duke sucks, and they haven't had as many game sto call.
Also, the Big East has a contract with ESPN, so majority of teh games are BE games.
Dukey V will be calling the game on Saturday. ;)

alright, jim rome...what's soccer have to do with this?
Ha! I knew eventually someone would call him on the soccer comment.
I made the mistake of saying something negative about soccer on this board once. Never again! You would think somehow I personally insulted every soccer fans mother with one statement.
No....I love soccer....even more than college basketball!

Its a saying - not a knock on soccer. I played up through my freshman year at Arizona and the intramural's at MU. Sorry to easily offend you.
I think Donovan should be getting a lot more attention here, I know Vitale should be getting a lot of this attention, but I think Donovan has kinda gone untouched.
