Media updates:   Arrivederci, Travis Diener

Written by: noreply@blogger.com (Tim Blair)

Marquette graduate Travis Diener (http://wiki.muscoop.com/doku.php/men_s_basketball/travis_diener) signed a one-year contract to play for Dinamo Sassari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinamo_Basket_Sassari) of the Italian League this season.  Based on the island of Sardinia the team will play in that country's top professional league this season, Italian Lega Basket Serie A (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lega_Basket_Serie_A).

During his five-year NBA career Diener averaged 4.8 points and 2.4 assists per game (http://www.nba.com/playerfile/travis_diener/index.html).  Last season injuries and crowded rosters in both Indiana and Portland limited Diener to just nine games played, a career low.  Diener obviously hopes to have an opportunity to log major minutes in one of Europe's top leagues in hopes of someday returning to the NBA or securing a longer-term contract.

The Fond du Lac Reporter talks with Travis about his new team here (http://www.fdlreporter.com/article/20100817/FON02/8170524/Travis-Diener-to-play-in-Italy).

But wait, there's more.....
From the "It's Never Too Early To Think About The Regular Season Department" the guys over at South Orange Juice, a Seton Hall blog, are previewing the BIG EAST season in a series of posts.  The Juicers slot MU in as the conference's 9th best team (http://www.southorangejuice.com/2010/8/14/1613468/a-very-early-preview-of-big-east), a position we're confident the Warriors will surpass this winter.

Rush the Court sees more promise for MU this season (http://rushthecourt.net/2010/08/16/summer-school-in-the-big-east/) (we agree), picking the Warriors 6th in the BIG EAST as part of their must-read 'Summer School' post today.  Still, Buzz Williams and MU take a well-deserved smack from the authors for the debacle (http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=21208.275) surrounding the perceived swap of former signee D.J. Newbill for transfer Jamil Wilson.

With the success of the Big Televen Network lining the pockets of those institutions with cash and influence, the BIG EAST is formulating plans for its own network (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10216/1077486-233.stm).

The South orange Juice lost all credibility when it picked ND ahead of us. I know at times they played well without Godo but they lost allot on a team that just did not seem that talented.

"Davonte Gardner and Reggie Smith are solid players who have some upside at the center and power forward positions, respectively"

Did Reggie grow 7-8 inches and put on 40-50 pounds in the last two weeks?

SWEET!

Playing with an "undersized" PF who was 6'6"-225 was too easy for Buzz. He wants a real challenge this year!

The South Orange seem to be really high on Seton Hall this year... like they are every year.  Now that Bobby-G is gone, they may actually have a chance.  However, Marquette being slotted in the 9 spot?!?  C'mon.  Looking forward to proving ourselves to be a top 20 team again.   By the way, the name of that blog should be changed as it sounds like it hails from South Florida.
