Sounds pretty downtrodden.  Hopefully thinks start going his way soon!

Worst case, he'll get another opportunity to play in Europe. I know players that aspire to play in the NBA loathe the European leagues, but if they accepted those leagues as their ceiling I bet they would have a pretty good time. Most European cities have a lot to offer. If they weren't so driven to get back (which isn't always a bad thing) they'd see what they have in front of them.

"Forest in spite of the trees" huh Windy?

i agree.

As long as those trees aren't lit...if ya know what I'm sayin... ;)

I think Jerel would be a great mid-season/late-season add-on for a team.
But he's gotta show he can dominate again.

As for DJ, I think if he's willing to give up/cut short his playing days and be a grad assistant at MU, Buzz will happily give him a seat. DJ would make a great coach.

He was suspended fo 2 years as I recall for international ball.  Not really an option?

Based on what?  Let's face it, if the guy can't break into summer league games, he's not NBA material at this point.

I know he was suspended from the Belgian league, but not from international ball. That seems a little excessive. And who are the powers that be who impose that sort of sanction. Is there a world basketball organization?

There is a World Basketball Association, may be they ruled on the matter?

This looks like it's for a league a rung below the NBA D-league.

I think that was a misunderstand based on a poor translation of the original article.  The writer was talking about how Jerel was the second player in a Belgian league to test positive for a drug during that season, and then went into the fact that the other player was suspended for two years for his positive PED test.  He made no mention of Jerel getting a two year suspension at all, according to the author his suspension was only for 15 games.

Bottom line:  Jerel McNeal is not an NBA caliber player

He is an undersized two that has turnover and decision making problems.

He doesn't get his shot off quickly enough.

He doesn't finish well after contact.

His on ball defense is good not great.

I really wish Jerel the best but I don't see him playing in the NBA.  He was a very good college player but his weaknesses are debilitating at the NBA level.  I hope he continues to make money playing ball and doesn't just throw in the towel.

I don't think there's any disagreement about that here.

Perhaps you are correct as usual, but I don't remember reading that interpretation prior to this.  Do you have a reference?

If you look back at the original article:

http://www.rtbf.be/sport/basket-ball/ligue-ethias/jerel-mc-neal-prie-de-quitter-mons-hainaut-72158

Do a Google translation and this is what you get...

QuoteJerel Mc Neal asked to leave Mons-Hainaut
29.03.10 - 12:43 Mons-Hainaut, has decided to dispose of its American leader, Jerel Mc Neal, for disciplinary reasons. In fact he tested positive for cannabis by AWBB.
Contacted by us, the French wing of basketball has confirmed the information. Dismissed for 15 days already, Mc Neal, 22, went back to Chicago this weekend.
He joined Mons-Hainaut in November 2009 and will not be replaced. Mons leaders wanted to continue with the current group trusting Alex Libert point guard for the last 9 games of the regular season. Mons-Hainaut occupies the 6th place in the provisional standings.
Jerel McNeal had his penalty extended across the International Basketball Federation (FIBA World). It is the second player to have tested positive in Belgium and suspended by FIBA World in March after Jonathan Habsch (RBC Aywaille/D3).

Habsch had tested positive for norandrosterone. The player did not ask for expert-cons, but said it had taken dietary supplements. It was initially banned for two years with one year suspended by AWBB June 11, 2009. FIBA World imposed a firm suspension of two years on March 4 last. Habsch Jonathan, 25, is suspended until April 21, 2011.

Now by my reading of that, the translation is showing that McNeal was suspended for 15 days by his team and FIBA accepted the penalty before his team released him.  The only mention of of a two year penalty was for Jonathan Habsch, not Jerel.  From what it looks like, people took the two year comment about the other guy, applied it to Jerel, and ran with it, despite the article not actually saying that.

In fact, if you do some digging in the dark recesses of the internet you can find articles from other Euro ball sites talking about it being a two week suspension....
