There was some talk on one of the threads below about Singleton's status and if he might be offered an athletic at some time in the future. scholarship. My question is this. Its pretty common knowledge that Private Schools like MU list a very high Tuition but then offer nearly everyone who asks some aid to be at least somewhat competitive with state schools. If you Walk On to a program like Men's Basketball that has a hard scholarship cap is the School prohibited from any kind of reduction in the Tuition cost at all? What if the student can legitimately qualify for academic awards that are also offered to the general student body? I could see how the NCAA would really have to watch this since many of the awards are based on a judgement call by the school. That said a kid shouldn't be punished financially if he can qualify for a partial academic scholarship or is just getting what everyone else in his situation gets, just because also wants to participate in basketball.
I'm pretty sure Frozen A has some sort of hefty academic scholarship from the school, so that shouldn't be an issue.
Not an exact quote, but I read elsewhere on this board that they can walk-ons give academic/other schloarships, so long as the walk-ons are given comparable financial aid to what a non-athlete would be getting. So, for example they can give an Ignatius Scholarship for $9k if that's what other students of comparable academic achievement are receiving, but they can't give a full ride if other students aren't receiving something similar.
Frozen-A had a 4.0, so I think he qualifies for an academic scholarship.
I believe that Frozena is ROTC, thus he is supported by the military. Walk ons are eligible for the same financial aid treatment as any other student. However, there are restrictions/limitations on what they can receive by the athletic department

This is exactly right. And the NCAA will audit this pretty quickly if they feel there is abuse.
