Would be curious to have people share what they voted 1..and what would be 2 and 3...Certainly all factors have relevance, but should be interesting to see what we would place greatest priority on. Try to remove any MU bias..and try to think in the mind of a16-17 year old.
My personal order?
Availability of Playing Time - Need to be seen to get out ASAP.
TV Exposure & Conference - Same as above, and these go hand-in-hand.
Program Legacy of turning out NBA talent - Need to get to the NBA.
Coach - Needs NBA contacts and players. Not some schmuck from Utah State.
Uniforms/Shoes - Gots to look good, and have to look good in the right brand.
Weather - Won't be at school long, but would be nice.
Campus Lifestyle/City - Same as above.
Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator - Would have very little to do with me as I'm one and done.

So you're saying you wouldn't want to play for the Legend that is Stew Morrill?
My order would be:
Coach
Availability of PT
TV Exposure and Conference
Program Legacy of turning out NBA talent
For the high major BBall or Football player - my thought is they are probably most interested in what coach, school, conference can help me MOST reach the next level...weather and campus lifestyle come secondary to that..

Could you imagine if the guy could recruit like Calipari? He'd make Wooden look like a waterboy.
Girl hotness factor.
I'd play for anyone not named Crean.
My senior year I had a project in my Persuasion class that addressed this. Jimmy and Maurice were both in my small group and we got them to give the players a little survey on the main factors that influenced their recruitment. Dwyane Wade's name as a reason to go to Marquette specifically came up as the #1 reason in 5 or 6 of the surveys (maybe more, hard to to remember), and that DWade's recent success, in general, was a big reason for most of the players I believe.
Jimmy said he had no idea even where Marquette was but trusted Buzz. The shoe deal was also mentioned as being big a few times. But other than that I believe the coach and style were the other main reasons.
Sorry I couldnt be more specific, trying to remember what the findings exactly were. It was funny cause on the surveys some of the players just wrote "DWADE!" for last question.
The biggest influence for me would be $$$$$$ and what the females look like. Those are what my handlers put the biggest emphasis on. Oh, and the offense must be run through me the minute I step on campus.

Nah, then he would just be ridiculed like Calipari and Roy Williams are for having all that talent but not being able to coach. To be "legendary", you need to take a bunch of stiff, white, Mormon kids that no one wants and win 25+ games each year. ;)
Personally, I would only go to a school that allows me to practice free throws only on my time....as Mr. Hand would say. MY TIME.

Thanks for the input - would love to get this survey done on every new recruit that signs with Marquette..probably would be good "market research" to have on file..help us know what MOST to sell in the recruiting process. I didn't think of the DWADE angle, but that makes a lot of sense too.
Education hands down. Unless I were a top 15 recruit I would take an ivy league education or an equivalent (stanford) one.
Cheerleaders
Weather
Playing Time
Bars
Really:
1) Playing time
2) Exposure
3) Coach
4) NBA talent from school
The one that has the best record of getting players to the NBA, assuming that was my goal.
Not sure. Not enough options.

I think you just called Bo Ryan "legendary."
1. Hookers for a threesome
2. The school that my dad's warden wants me to attend
3. Palm trees
the school with the message board with the most inane polls.

Would you have said the same thing at 17 years old.
Looking back, I would agree with you. If I were a 17 year old top 100 recruit, I don't think education would be near the top of my list.

I know you are referencing He Got Game but your 3 criteria also sound a lot like Arizona State.
Apologies to FSU.
1. PT
2. Conference
3. TV Exposure

So if the same amount of PT were available, you would rather go to South Florida, DePaul, Northwestern etc. over Memphis or Gonzaga?
of those five, i think i would probably say:
1. DePaul - the idea of being the guy that makes DePaul relevant again, captures the city a little bit is cool
2. Memphis - big following, some intense local rivalries
3. Gonzaga - dominates coverage in the area
4. USF - i can't really speak to how much south florida cares
5. Northwestern - no one, not even Chicago gives a damn
I guess in my head, conference and TV exposure went hand in hand. Sure there are exceptions like Memphis, Gonzaga, and maybe now Butler. But for the most part, its the major conferences you see on the national networks every night.
What Cheech Marin is "marketing" outside of the "Vampire Bar" in "Dusk to Dawn" is certainly #1 on any guys list......and not mentioned here!
In honesty, i if were trying to get to the nba as a top 15 recruit, i would go to a mid tier big conference school, similar to lance stephensen going to cincinatti. you get to be the guy, no doubt, get good competition, and you are not gonna wait for the other top 15 guys to graduate to get on the court.
How about "Program Legacy" period. I would imagine that has a huge influence on an 18-year-old kid.

The poll was regarding high major recruits. South Florida, DPU and Northwestern don't really apply, unless they are a "high major" solely by virtue of their conference affiliation.

Being a "high major recruit" doesn't necessarily imply that you will or must choose a "high major" program. This year "high major recruits" have selected schools like U of Detroit and Central Michigan even though they had multiple offers from "high major" programs.
