Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech
Hope he is healthy enough to do this
I remember that there were hints that there was a possibility he could play again, but they never went anywhere. Perhaps he found a treatment regimen that made him comfortable with attempting to play but not the coaches. Perhaps by the time he had unexpectedly recovered sufficiently, his schollie had been given to someone else. Weird. I hope he knows what he is doing and I wish him nothing but the best.
When there was talk about him playing again, I wondered how Buzz could get away with that. Remember the NCAA was told he had a career ending injury, so he was transferred to a non-basketball scholarship. How does MU bring him back, when they took him off the scholarship roster? I do not think MU could bring him back, without going through a lot of red tape.

MU is not bringing him back. It's Tennessee Tech.
I hope they are medically sure of this. If he's good to go, it'll be disappointing he never got to try it here, but I wish him all the best. He's a very classy guy.
Good luck, to Liam. I hope he does well!
Interesting that he winds up at TTU. Their coach, Mike Sutton, was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, and about 5 years ago was in extremely rough shape (i.e., couldn't do much but open and close his eyes).
Liam's comeback story won't touch that of his coach, but he'll be with someone who can relate to medical issues... hope it all goes well and Liam does great and enjoys his time there.
Best of luck to Liam. Seems like a great kid!
Why do you suppose he didn't make his comeback as part of MU's Golden Eagle squad?

I know that, I was explaining why he had to go elsewhere.

There could have been disagreements between Liam and MU regarding his health.
You had me going with the Subject Line Chicos. Hope all goes well for Liam.
uh oh...
brace for the 'he was buzz cut in a most underhanded, circuitous way' banter...

Or there could be the simple, more straight forward reason. Once he was removed from an athletic scholarship, they couldn't put him back on one. Or that he wanted to play this year and MU didn't have a scholarship available.
Thanks for playing. What a horrible post.

Huh? Why is it a horrible post?
A medical condition forced him to quit. Is it unreasonable to think that he wants to continue playing, but MU wouldn't let him due to his condition? And Tennessee Tech doctors cleared him?
It wouldn't be the first time.

Your response is closer to horrible then the original post.
Clearly there is a difference of opinion in the medical sense as MU announced McMorrow's career was over and yet Tenn Tech announced he will play immediately in just a few months.
Also, why the need for an athletic scholarship? Surely, if a player has left a team yet remained in the University on a differing scholarship any program would welcome a walk-on opportunity in some sense. No?

Um, because it is against the NCAA rules?

Because there are two REAL facts that you are ignoring.
First, we don't have a scholarship available for him. He can't play here this year. And he can't be a walk on without paying his own way.
Second, the NCAA won't allow him to return to scholarship without an appeal, which he may not win.
So, long before any alledged disagreement, which is pure conjecture on your part, there are two very valid facts as to why he is not playing at MU.

And you seem to be ignoring the fact that Marquette said that he could no longer play for medical reasons. And now he can play. That means he either got better...or Tennessee Tech's doctors cleared him even though MU's didn't.
It seems like both of us are engaging in conjecture...something that has yet to be disproven and could indeed be correct.
So please...stop the douche baggery.

Marquette said he could no longer play for medical reasons a year ago and moved him off of an athletic scholarship. We can't move him back to one without a waiver. That isn't conjecture.
We don't have a scholarship this year. Again, not conjecture.
Yours? Complete conjecture.

But even if they could, he still may not have been able to for medical reasons right?
the kid had played virtually no basketball compared to any kid of similar height and age, MU was taking a risk on him to begin with. Couple that with a redshirt and what was originally suspected to be a career threatening injury and maybe the Ohio Valley Conference is a little more his level at the present moment.
I wish him the best, hoped he could have played for MU but hope he has success in the valley and in his future career.

Plenty of walk-ons all over the country have been given some scholarship money to help stave the cost of tuition (if tuition wasn't already deemed to be taken care of by a booster). You know creative accounting is used.
Regardless, the original guy isn't wrong in saying there could be a difference of opinion regarding McMorrow's health.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I heard this as it's not all that uncommon. Case in point: Eddy Curry and the Chicago Bulls,

If this were the case, then the MU staff wouldn't have helped introduce Liam to TTU--in fact, if they had any sort of good conscience they would have done everything in their power to keep him from transferring to another school. And if he did go it would have been over MU's most strenuous objections--not the full cooperation and assistance.
This wasn't a disagreement over some elective foot surgery (like Fazekas). This is a player who's medical conditions were serious enough that MU's medical staff concluded he could
never play again. But Brad Autry is willing to overlook that detail in order to introduce him to other programs so he can play there? That makes no sense.

We didn't have one available for Jamil Wilson, either.
Its safe to say that if Liam had shown the talent of a Roy Hibbert or Hasheem Thabeet, there would have been a scholarship for him once he received medical clearance, and our AD's office would be burning up the phone lines working to clear whatever NCAA red tape was in the way.

Let's be fair, here.
1) Liam McMorrow does not have the standing to "disagree" with MU's medical staff -- that is unless MU reopened its medical school and Liam pulled a Doogie Howser over the last two years.
2) Liam's injury appears to be in a gray area where some doctors might clear him, but others would not. Differing opinions are quite common in the medical profession, especially when it comes to a prognosis. Physicians don't always see eye to eye, but that doesn't mean they don't respect and understand an alternate opinion that is medically sound. "Disagree" is the wrong word... instead, call it a "lack of consensus." As such, it would not be surprising (nor is it breach of ethics, per se) if MU's med staff said "no" and TTU's said "yes"
3) The move probably has a lot more to do with the fact that Liam wants to play and MU - unfortunate as it may be - just isn't the best fit for him right now. He can go to TTU and play a lot more minutes than he will at MU. As long as TTU's med staff monitors him closely, he'll be just fine.

I have no idea, but it occurred to me that Newbill's scholarship was going to go to McMorrow if they could get through the NCAA red tape, before Wilson showed up. It just might be McMorrow lost out to Wilson, a better player with no redtape to clear up. Plus it gets rid of the risk of McMorrow having a serious mishap on our court.

Liam, himself, might not have told MU that he disagreed with the prognosis. However, if he is told by a doctor that he can't play but seeks out a second opinion and third opinion, etc that is "disagreeing" with the original prognosis. That doesn't necessarily mean that there was any ill will towards MU or that there is some sort of heated debate about things. It just means that MU's doctor(s) had a different opinion than TTU's doctor(s). Obviously I don't know Liam's medical history or what the doctors found or disagreed upon or how many physicals he had. I'm merely speaking in hypotheticals.
Regardless, I hope Liam has a great career at Tennessee Tech...and that he continues to interview his teammates and ask them what a Golden Eagle eats ;D
Per Jeff Goodman twitter (@goodmanonfox) Liam was granted a waiver and will be allowed to play this season w/ Tennessee Tech
