Title: Katz on Wilson Transfer
Post by: Dish on June 30, 2010, 04:17:59 PM
Too often news of transfers gets more attention than it deserves because of the slow offseason news cycle.

According to a source close to Memphis coach Josh Pastner, he didn't want Roburt Sallie back next season. Sallie wasn't going to be a main fixture on the team with a heralded recruiting class coming aboard, led by Will Barton and local product Joe Jackson.

According to a source close to Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy, he wanted no part of Eniel Polynice on the Rebels, regardless of losing another guard to the NBA draft in Terrico White.

Sallie and Polynice are on track to graduate this summer from their respective schools and are seeking to use an NCAA rule to their advantage. Although it's quite a reach, the purpose of the rule is to legitimately allow a student-athlete who graduates the chance to pursue a graduate-school degree at another institution if it's not offered at the current one.

Sallie and Polynice are seeking an appeal to play immediately next season at Louisville and Seton Hall, respectively. There is plenty of paperwork to file but both will have to show that they are going for a graduate school major that they cannot pursue at their previous schools.

The NCAA has shown lenience in granting immediately eligibility instead of the year-in-residence rule for players if there is a illness in the family or special circumstances like a postseason ban or a father-son combination (Lon and Kevin Kruger at UNLV). But a coaching change usually doesn't do the trick. That's why any attempt by Marquette to get Wisconsin native Jamil Wilson immediately eligible after transferring from Oregon back might not work.

The school already put out a release that Wilson would be eligible in 2011-12, but there could be extenuating family circumstances that might work in his favor if the school chooses to pursue that plan. Wilson was a big-time 2009 recruit who chose Oregon over Texas, Michigan State and Marquette.

Not sure... Pretty sure we would have another 10+wins in the BE though.

Too funny.

I just realized MU fans are just as bad as Notre Dame basketball fans. They have been in the BE for 15 years and only have 1 regular season championship (and no BE tournament championships to speak of). Yet, they boast about their team as though they have as much hardware as Syracuse.

MU will STILL not be as good as Pitt or Syracuse or Nova.

And btw, have you noticed all of the top recruits taking visits to Rutgers and SJU recently? Funny how those bottom-feeders are suddenly drawing more interest than MU and DePaul...

I guess if I have learned anything, its that a conference will soon to turn into garbage once MU joins it. Isnt this your third conference since the start of your bball program? Ouch. Some tradition you guys have there.

already nailed wilson, blue, jamail jones etcc...

10 wins every year since we have been in the conference

do you know anything? At all?

2011 is our year anyways. What we do this year is just building towards something special.

Get a life man.  No idea what on earth you are trying to accomplish but if this is how you are using your time you should go rethink your life.

I'm no literary scholar, but I'm pretty sure that "deep" doesn't mean "the best team in the conference."  You can have a team that is solid from 1-12, but still lack the star power to crack the top-3 in a tough conference.  Pretty sure 90% of people here would take a 4th place next year with a smile.

Also, I'm not sure why you're taking shots at DePaul?  Pretty sure they count as a bottom-feeder and I think they've been losing recruits for years...

Ron, I've just decided you broke one of MUScoop's few rules:

Quote# Opposing fans are welcome - for basketball conversation.  If you're going to spam or flame, you will be banned

I guess you should have read the "Welcome" post at the top.  Buh-bye...

Edit - LOL, one of the other mods beat me to it...

Wow, you can count to 3. Congrats, I guess it is just when you get to 10,11, or 12 that counting issues arise.

Wow. I mean if you're going to troll you could at least try to do it effectively. This is just pathetic.

Why are there so many opposing fans on our board?? Worry about your squads, we'll worry about ours. It's that simple.

Sadly he couldn't even count properly, because this is our fourth conference.  MCC, Great Midwest, C-USA, Big East.

I think its a good sign we have so many on the board, it means they're worried about us.  I say bring it on.

Not to mention the years when we were an independent. I'd rather be successful and jump around conferences than have Wisconsin's illustrious (lol) history of losing in the Big Ten (up until the previous decade.)

Also I'm glad we have so many haters. It gives us recognition. When I tell people here in California that I go to Marquette they think it's some area community college they've never heard of (or they know it as Dwyane Wade U)

Anything from the mouth of Ron Burgundy is funny beacause the movie caracter did not know how ignorant he was--one of my favorite "RON" quotes from the movie is:
Ron Burgundy:
Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.
Veronica Corningstone:
No, there's no way that's correct.
Ron Burgundy:
I'm sorry, I was trying to impress you. I don't know what it means. I'll be honest, I don't think anyone knows what it means anymore. Scholars maintain that the translation was lost hundreds of years ago.

...Thanks Ron--ignorance is always funny to read--you ARE your hero!

Back to the original topic of the thread....Jamil could possibly win and eligibilty petiton...not only did his coach get fired but we all may recall that Jamil's mom passed away when he was a senior in HS add that in with wanting to be closer to home/be with his family etc.  And he just may get it granted.  Regardless if he gets it granted...I had family in Seattle and it is like the other side of the world it is so far away.  I cannot imagine a 17 year kid who just lost his mom going from wisconsin to oregon to be by himself for a year.  Tought task for the kid.  i think he will flourish at Mu and a year off may be the best thing for him.  A year in practice and the weight room and Jamil will be an animal.

Jamil's mom didn't die when he was a senior in high school.  She died in March 2007.  Which was his sophomore year.

Come on, let's not discourage Ron from posting - we need a little comic relief from some of the heavier threads!

We will never equal Nova or Syracuse even though Pitt and MU are the only teams in the BE to win at least 10 games each of the last 5 years and one of only 11 teams to make the NCAA tourney 5 years in a row is well.

And we did all that with ZERO 5-stars and fewer 4-stars then we now have filling our roster.
