Title: The Good News about the Wilson Transfer
Post by: GGGG on June 30, 2010, 12:19:22 PM
In his two years on the job, Buzz Williams has managed to secure the three top high school basketball players from Wisconsin during that time.  Yes Maymon was a train wreck, but he managed to get Blue and (eventually) Wilson, both of whom where extremely highly rated.

This is why I would be amazed if Tokoto chooses UW over MU.

I was thinking the same exact thing. If MU surprises again this year and Vander is as advertised we could land JP and have a team with three Wisconsin natives starting which would make MU look great for future Wisconsin recruits

Indeed! Buzz is doing a great job creating relationships with the elite Wisconsin players and their families. As Buzz alluded to a while back, it is not about rivaling UW in getting the best Wisconsin prospects, but he's doing nothing wrong by developing relationships with these players and their families, giving them the best chance to prosper in the future by attending MU.

Go Buzz!

I dont think there was, or will be, interest from UW.

And I'm not sure how much we will be interested either given his relationship with Auriental and his role in the Maymon mess.

"The Good News about the Wilson Transfer"

You mean other than the fact that MU added an extremely talented player to the lineup?

He will be a Junior next year.

Nothing, that I can remember reading, said he is UW bound.

Changing gears a little bit, how do u think this affects our position with Branden Dawson?  Basically, next yr we lose Butler and Fulce, but gain Jamil.  So that would give us Jamil, Crowder, E Will, J Jones in that 6'6" to 6'7" wing area.

It doesn't affect our position with Dawson.  He is a 5 star recruit, Buzz will find a place for him on the roster.  Think about what just happenned in the last 48 hours.

Was Wilson injured at the end of the year? Why minutes in only 3 of the last 9 games?

I'll be surprised if Tokoto chooses UW or MU...

I agree totally with you, I'm more curious tho to Branden's position with MU.  I would hope/think he sees this as a positive, that we are bringing in top talent.  Just that some recruits might look at it and think it might be too crowded at his position.

I'm totally speculating here (isn't that was message boards are for), but could it possibly be related to the fact that rumors  began circulating (http://quevedobuffet.blogspot.com/2010/02/jamil-wilson-to-marquette.html) in February that Wilson was going to transfer to MU?  Chicken or egg?  Totally unrelated?

Well, you are right, that is total speculation, but it could be the reason.

Wasn't that the first sign of Maymon going bye bye?  He looked lifeless against UW.

Competition makes players better. If you can play, a coach will find a way to get you minutes. I've always thought if a recruit, especially a highly-touted one, doesn't want to go somewhere because they already have players at his position, then he probably isn't a team-first guy and likely doesn't have the right mind-set to go hard every single day in practice. If he wants to be handed a job then he should transfer to Tennessee  ;)

I'm not inferring anything about Dawson, just pointing out my own opinion on recruits who seemingly dodge competition.

Maymon left in December, the Wilson rumor popped up in February.  Unlikely that one had anything to do with the other.

If Ernie Kent was still at Oregon, Jamil would be too. Once it became clear that Kent was going to be ousted, the Wilson rumors started.

Agreed. I can see us putting out a line up in the next couple years filled with all 6'6" and taller out on the court, similar to a WVU this past year. Potent.
