"Trying to think of last time my home state of WI produced a player as athletic/explosive as Vander Blue. Looked great nxt to Irving/Rivers"
Then later when asked whether Vander could play the point:
"He probably *could*, but like Austin Rivers, SG is his optimal spot. Better to stay there."
Vander played some point last night. Team was better with him at the point than they were with Gady at the point. Team USA scoring really drops when Gady plays the point.
"Former Madison Memorial athlete and Marquette recruit Vander Blue totaled nine points, four rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes to help the United States topple Canada 122-89 in the semifinals of the FIBA-Americas U18 Championship Tuesday in San Antonio, Texas.
Junior Lomomba, a junior-to-be at Memorial, did not play for Canada.
Austin Rivers, the son of Boston Celtics coach and former NBA player Doc Rivers, poured in 35 points and made nine straight 3-pointers at one point for the U.S., which will play Brazil in the final Wednesday night."

I am so optimistic about the future of MU basketball.

Lomomba couldn't get on the floor in a 30 point blowout?
Have not seen him play, but is Austin Rivers that big time?
What are his strengths and weaknesses?
He is an unbelievable shooter. He can also take it to the rim. Vander is quicker and more athletic, but Vander best shot is a dunk. Rivers hit his first 9 threes the other night and he was not wide open on any of them. Might be the best shooter I have ever seen.
Oh I wish Doc would nudge Austin towards Milwaukee :)
Boy, this says a lot about the quality of Wisconsin HS hoops. Geez, Vander with all that talent couldn't even get named Wisconsin Mr. Basketball! ::)
