Title: Question for Philly Coach.
Post by: JPapi2525 on June 29, 2010, 12:28:27 PM
Just curious what number DJ Newbill will be sporting next season.

I'm just very excited to see him in a MU Jersey.

Thanks

Sad to say dj newbill will not be in a mu uniform next season. Scott call me and asked me to ask dj and his family to sign a release form. Now he can never play in the big east because they have a rule that wont allow a player to go play at another big east school. Well thanks guys i gotta help find this kid a school.

But why would DJ be leaving/asked to sign a release form?

Jamil Wilson just asked for a transfer . . .

Wouldn't he have to sit out a year?

1) Scott Monarch?

2) Now we know why DJ had no knowledge of the summer league.

3) Hopefully this means Wilson will transfer.  I was excited for next year, but now 2011-2012 looks REAL exciting.

Yes, but transfer count toward your scholarship total.

It has been said that for a long time that the entire team and recruits knew of some roster changes that would be coming soon - specifically a recruit going to prep school.  This has been speculated for a while.  Has DJ made the grades that would have him eligible?  Did he just get his exam results that prevent him competing this fall?  The fact that DJ was not previously signed up for that ProAm is indicative of something going on that was known for a while.  I find it hard to believe that this just happened and was a complete surprise.

Scott who?

Monarch?

0-2 on Philly kids, probably under less-than-ideal cimrcumstances. Can probably scratch that town off the list as a future recruiting locale.

SO I remember that everyone was busting one over this kid and he was highly rated but he played in the worst conference and didn't have great stats at all.  Why do we want him?

The difference maker in the Leading the recruitment for Newbill was the coaching staff, and the recruitment was led by Marquette assistant coach Scott Monarch.

So yeah, looks like the call was from Monarch.  Now we need to find out why...

Folks, let's remember to be respectful in this situation.  Asking "why did we want this kid in the first place", 5 minutes after he is leaving is a bit insensitive IMHO.

Best of luck DJ and PhillyCoach.

PhillyCoach-

Is DJ going to be academically eligible to play this fall at whatever school?

I infered that from the above the comment.  I apologize if I comprehended it wrongly.

I think he's saying that because when we signed him there were many of us (I plead guilty) wondering why we signed him in the first place.  Didn't seem to make a lot of sense for any number of reasons at the time.

At any rate, mystery seems to be solved now.

A couple of posters from the scout board bring up a couple of good points...namely...I don't think the MU coaching staff would call the coach and have  him tell DJ and his parents to sign a release.
I believe that the MU coaching staff would make that call in person...think on that a bit....is this guy for real? He or she has always sounded too...hmmm like "Awwww  shucks"... lets not jump to conclusions so fast.

Why doesn't someone do an IP check first and foremost and see if he's even from Philadelphia.  That would eliminate one question almost immediately.

He supposedly cut a video with Brand Forster on DJ for Cracked Sidewalks...should confirm he is legit.  Let's hear the whole story.

yeah... I thought you were referring to my post.  I was talking about Wilson.

Wilson at one point prior to his senior year was a top 20 recruit by most services, might have been even higher by some.  I don't know what happened his senior year, but I guess he did not keep that ranking and his ranking dropped.  He was still a four star top 100 pick by Rivals, I don't know what Scout, etc had as his final.

He is 6ft 6in and extremely athletic.  He should be the perfect fit for Butler's position in 2011.  This kid is a bigtime recruit if he decides to transfer to MU.

He was an inner city kid from Racine, who went to the cedar trees in Oregon.  Played for a bad Oregon program and probably had no real incentive, especially when your family and friends are so far away, they can't make any games.  That is now over.

Some kids make errors and a change of scenery and/or return to home can really make a difference.  I am really hoping Wilson doe transfer to MU.  If so, 2011 will be special.

I will say this, I want more details.  I hope as hell we didn't buzz cut \ Crean \ Ryan someone as I not only think this is wrong, it will end up being a bad karma deal in my opinion down the road.

But that's why I'm waiting for more details rather than just taking roadkill posters words as gospel.
