Title: Just Supposin'...
Post by: 4everwarriors on June 26, 2010, 01:25:34 PM
Jerry Smith had chosen MU instead of Louisville coming out of Tosa East. Anyone figuring he would have then been drafted, taking all factors into consideration? Sure looked like future NBA talent in high school.
Who may have also surprised you by not being drafted? Or who was drafted that you figured wouldn't be?

I felt like Jerry Smith as a freshman at Louisville was the same player as a senior, so not that surprised about him not being drafted, with his lack of development at Louisville.

I'm surprised nobody has brought up Scottie Reynolds...I read that he was the first AP All-American not to be drafted since the 70's when the ABA and NBA merged. Any thoughts on why nobody wanted Reynolds?

IMO Jerry Smith got worse the longer he stayed at Louisville, his career was similar to Dominic James. If Scotty would have left after his junior year he would have been a top 10 pick. Yet the longer scouts have to evaluate you throughout your college career the more nit picky they become, also he doesn't have a position.

Going to MU would have made him neither quicker nor taller...so my answer is "no."

That may be true, but Lazar certainly is undersized and quick. Didn't seem to hinder him on draft day. I credit both Hayward and Buzz's staff and the MU culture he obviously bought into for his 1st rd. Selection. That's my point.

But Jerry Smith isn't quick.  He's a 6'2" spot up shooter who really isn't much of a ball-handler nor is he a great defender.  Lazar has all sorts of skills.  Smith has one skill...and that's about it.
