Good...a chance to beat Notre Dame twice in a season.

That road schedule is pretty tough:  Connecticut, Georgetown, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Seton Hall, USF, Villanova.

July 12, is when MU will put out day by day their non-league games.

So, let the argument begin: Which teams have the toughest/easiest schedules?

Holey smokes!  Lets beat Cuse at the BC.  27 years is long enough for a losing streak!

So, what does it all mean.  Preseason ranking don't mean much but as a attempt to get a feel for this I used NBE.

HOME GAMES: Cincinnati (13), Connecticut (8), DePaul (15), Notre Dame (7), Providence (11), St. John's (9), Seton Hall (14), Syracuse (4), West Virginia (5)

ROAD GAMES: Connecticut (8), Georgetown (1), Louisville (10), Notre Dame (7), Pittsburgh (2), Rutgers (16), Seton Hall (14), USF (12), Villanova (3)

1, 2 and 3 on the road.  Here's hoping for 9-0 at home and 6-3 on the road!  Realistically is 8-1 and 4-5 too much to ask?

Toughest road schedules:

MU - UConn, GTown, ND, Nova
Cuse - UConn, GTown, 'Ville, MU, Pitt, Nova
WVU - GTown, 'Ville, MU, Pitt, Cuse, Nova

Bucknell and Centenary should be on there.

I always thought the home-home opponents were based strictly on competitive balance. Guess not.

First conference record prediction (it's never too early):

HOME: 7-2

Cincy - W
DePaul - W
UConn - L (Payback from Jimmy last year)
ND - W
PC - W
St. John's - W
SHU - W
Cuse - L (the saga continues)
WVU - W (Payback from the other Butler last year)

AWAY: 6-3

UConn - L
GTown - W
Ville - W
ND - W
Pitt - L
Rutgers - W
SHU - W
USF - W
Nova - L

13-5 overall, 4-2 vs. mirror opponents, tied for 4th in BEast

After looking at the schedules and the returning players and incoming freshmen, I think next year is even more difficult to predict than last year. I think the BE will take a bit of a step backwards as a whole, though (but not by much).

Conference Champ: Pitt (they are returning everyone)
#2 Nova (predicting Pinkston has a freshman season somewhat similar to Lance Stephenson)
#3 Syracuse (top recruiting class but tough road opponents)
#4 MU (the team learns how to put opponents away at the end of regulation)
#5 Louisville (Pitino wont have a second underwhelming season)

1) The person who used NBE to rank teams on your schedule, those are the predraft rankings. Post draft rankings Gtown is 4th not #1.

2)I was wrong last year. But I think Georgetown finishes top 4. We have the best back court in the big east in Austin Freeman, Chris Wright, and Jason Clark.

Maybe, but it's debatable. And as for your frontcourt? 'Lacking' might be a good adjective.

Not sure I wouldn't take DJO, Cadougan and Blue instead.

The home scedule could very easily result in 8-1(i think atleast 1 slip up is bound to happen) but the road scedule is tough. Even the teams we are better than are still good enough that its tough to play on the road. (USF,Seton Hall, Rutgers). But we won at Uconn, CIncy and Hall last year so we can definitly pull of some wins. NOt to mention the near wins at Nova and WVU.

I think we lose to either Cuse or WVU at home and hopefully not both.

Pitt will get us

I hope UL doesnt and I hope we can sweep ND.

St. Johns will be much improved but we have them at home, better win.

Marquette hasn't had a true front court in years if ever and that hasn't stopped you guys from having success.
We still have Julian Vaughn plus a top 50 recruit in Nate Lubick coming in plus we actually in theory have depth this year. It's unproven depth, but I think it will surprise.

As far as the back court Austin is one of 2 All Big East Second teamers returning and should be at least co preseason POY. And chris wright made the BET all tournament team and should've made one of the BE teams.

Freeman: 16.5pts, 3.5rbds, 2.4asts, 0.9 stls 52.5% FG%( as a guard that's great) 85.6% FT% 44.4% 3ptFG%
Wright: 15.2pts, 3.0rbds, 4.1asts, 1.5stls 47.0% FG% 77.7%FT%, 33.6% 3ptFG%
Clark: 10.5pts, 3.9rbds, 2.0asts, 1.4stls, 47.5% FG% 75.8% FT%, 42.4% 3pt FG%

we also have Markel Starks coming in who's a top 100 recruit but highly underrated.

DJO is a very good guard and a great 3pt shooter, but  Cadougan hasn't had a chance to prove anything and Blue hasn't played a game yet. Georgetown has 3 proven veteran guards while you're relying on essentially 2 freshman and a sophomore.  The other 2 teams that have an argument are Cuse and Nova, but I think both their sets of guards are overrated, especially Brandon Triche.  So no it's not 100% but i think if you polled the BE coaches they'd agree and I think the end of the year BE teams and results will prove this out.

I agree with much of what you say, but putting stock in what BE coaches predict holds (understandably) very little sway on this board. Didn't they project MU 12th last year?

MU clearly has the most depth at the guard spot and for their backcourt. But I think we can realistically look at our BC as tops in the BE in 2011-2012. This year I have to agree that Freeman, Wright and Clark are tough to top. Losing only Buycks will make DJO, Cagougan, Blue, Smith, Newbill, Jones(if he plays some guard) and anyone else we might add very tough to top in 2 years when everyone has experience.

I'd rather have two guys who've proven they can start at Big East level and one guy who's proven to be a solid bench player then one guy who's proven to be a solid Big East player and two who haven't shown anything.

What if the "two who haven't shown anything" were, say, John Wall and D Wade coming into their first seasons? I think I would have taken either over a proven Big East starter or a solid bench player. I hope (and suspect) you would too.

In the "proof or potential" argument there is only ever one winner when the bias is taken away.

If we're going to do a nonsensical hypothetical you should have just written Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan instead of Wall and Wade. Would've been more fun.

Cadougan already has more college points than Kobe. :D
