With the announcement today of Erin Hills hosting the 2017 U.S. Open, coupled with Whistling Straits, the state has 2 courses worthy of hosting the world's best golfers as they compete in major golf tournaments. Who'd have thunk it?
more courses in WI than than in AZ and NC combined.
had to happen eventually.
awesome news for Erin Hills - will cement it's place in the great courses in the US for years to come. Hopefully they can add a second course someday and make it a true destination for golf...

Blackwolf Run also host's the US Women's Open.
I was lucky enough to get onto Erin Hills last summer after they had started laying down the new fescue on the front side (if you hit into it, they requested you lift it and play off the fairway), and I don't think the USGA will have to do much, if anything to it, aside from making the first and second cuts. It's disturbingly long, I think our caddie said it would wind up playing close to 7,700 yards for the Open. They also have a further back tee that played to just over 8,000. You can play links style on some of the holes since it's open and wind-swept in areas, but man it'll be tough. I put up a 109 from the middle tees. Look forward to seeing them play 18 with the church on the hill in the approach shots.
