The county commission will hear a resolution from Commissioner Joe A. Martinez that will change the name of Miami-Dade County to Miami-Wade County for that week of the free agent moratorium.

it'll never happen but how awesome would it be if it did!
Don't these politicians have anything better to do? ::)
They should consider changing it to Miami-Bosh County since D-Wade recently said he wants to stay in South Beach as long as they bring in someone to play along side him.
not only did the board of county commissioners approve it, it was unanimous. miami is making quite an effort to keep wade, fine with me, i'd hate to see him in chicago

Then getting reelected? No, that's always the priority.
Miami just traded their #18 pick and Daequan Cook to OKC for cash. Apparently, they are trying to give Wade and two others max contracts and fill the rest of the roster with essentially NBDL players.
Why do I have a feeling this strategy is going to backfire?

It WILL backfire. 2 max contracts and then what? Same goes for NY. Who will you surround your stars with?

I guarantee OKC uses that #18 on Alabi.
And this is just stupid. Instead of selling the pick, they should have tried to package it with future picks for a good cheap young pg like Darren Collison who will do nothing but rot behind Chris Paul next year.

Draft picks, a decent starter at the MLE every year, and vets looking for a ring willing to sign for the league min, which the NBA pays half for since they are vets.
It's a way to maximize talent. True max guys (Wade, Kobe, James, Bosh, Amare) are usually underpaid, midlevel guys are over paid, and the rookie scale is underpaid. I find it a smart strategy.
Dade is a stupid name, why are they only changing it for a week?
Miami-DWade county would be a better choice.

I'm good with Pat Riley calling the shots, and I don't believe he'll offer 3 max contracts.
Bulls are apparently do the same thing: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/features/rumors
If you are Bosh and LeBron, you might have to think the better team is Rose, Noah, Gibson, Deng and some NBL guys rather than Wade, Beasley and some NBDL guys.
Who knows what will happen, but I am excited for the free agency period. The Bulls can still move Deng to create even more space.

Yes it's totally crazy but I love it. I would not mind the deng-to-Orlando deal. The bulls are still short 2.2 mil to sign 2 max free agents.

I don't know if Orlando would want to allow a team to overtake them in the Eastern conference, but if Orlando would do just Gortat it would be perfect. Orlando replaces Hedo with a scoring 3 man and Chicago gets a nice center. I can't see Orlando doing that favor, however.
Maybe they should just trade Deng to the Clippers or Sacramento for a second round pick and be done with it.
