Title: Free Throws
Post by: StillAWarrior on November 11, 2006, 10:27:33 AM
Obviously, I'd like to see us improve over our 64% free throw shooting.  But another things that troubles me about our free throws is that our guards had 23 attempts, and our front-court had only 8 attempts.  Ooze didn't shoot a single free throws.  We need our front court to take the ball to the hole and that will get them to the line.  I didn't see the game.  I'd be interested in the comments of someone who saw the game.  Were our bigs passive?  Why weren't they getting to the line?

I did not see the game but it sure seems like our bigs were a lot more active in this game than what we have seen in quite a while.  Barro and Lott combined for 19 points and 13 boards.  Our offense is not predicated on dumping the ball down low and having our bigs try to dominate.  It is more along the lines of our guards try to penetrate and find the open player.  That is why we will see James, McNeal and Matthewshave the lion's share of free throw attempts.

Barro and Lott definitely played better than they did in the past, and they were much more aggressive. THey still won't get the ball down low too much, but they showed that they can score off of a rebound, which would be a big help. The guards will still get the majority of the free throw attempts, however they must improve their percentage at the line. We did shoot over 80% in the second half, though.

the FTshooting was quite good in the second half.  DJ also made 7 of 8 which is very encouraging.  Obviously there was not a clear focus in any phase of play in the first half.
