Welcome to the board - Happy to have you here, and we are very excited to see DJ in a Marquette uniform.  He seems like a great kid, with great basketball talent too.  Not sure why, but several here have speculated DJ would be going to prep school...thanks for clarifying that he won't!

That's the first real news we've had here since Davante Gardner signed on May 3rd.  And its real good news too! IMHO

PhillyCoach  One thing first time posters should know, when someone has something sarcastic to say or that they otherwise don't want people to think they are talking seriously about, they change the color of their post to teal.  For example,
DJ Newbill will immediately be a Dwyane Wade clone as a player at Marquette!

I hope and expect that DJ's experience at Marquette will be a great one and word will get back to Philly.  There's too much talent there to leave it all to Jay Wright.  BTW, general consensus on this board is that Jay Wright is definitely one of the good guys among Big East coaches.

Trust me when I say we're all very excited to have DJ join the Marquette family!!

We're all hardcore MU fans, except for a couple freaks, who will welcome you as well.

So welcome Philly friend!!

I thought Gardner's nickname was Big Ox, to differentiate him from all those little oxen running around.

Based on the DJ videos we've seen, I'd propose "workout warrior" as a nickname.  Maybe "WW", it'd be shorter, and you'd have to be clued in to know what it meant.

PhillyCoach,

One final thing, NewbillToMU is strictly forbidden for anyone to use as a user name.  In the past year, we'd had one guy post as MaymonToMU and another post as MbaoToMU, and if you know the history of those guys, you know its clearly a jinx to use a recruit's name and "ToMU" as a user name.

Actually it was the same guy.  Perhaps his new name should be "The Transfer Wizard".

Great to hear.  Sounds like DJ's already been working hard - just the mentality Buzz loves (what coach doesn't!?).

Can't wait to see him in MU colors (is it October yet)?

Alright Coach, good to have your input. All we have really seen of DJ is youtube videos.  Can you give us an honest assessment of his game?

Strengths...
Weaknesses...
How he can contribute next year...
Things he needs to work on...

Thanks!

The full length feature on DJ will be posted on Cracked Sidewalks early next week.  DJ just played in the Battle Of Brotherly Love hoops tourney and I wanted to capture some game footage.  I now have what I need to complete the story.  On a side note, his team lost by one point at the buzzer.  The other squad was led by five star recruit Dion Waiters who's committed to Syracuse.

Coach,

DJ looks pretty big in his youtube videos.  Do you think he can defend at the small forward spot in college?

Look forward to your feature Brad - enjoyed the last one you did on DJ.  I'm excited to see DJ in a MU uniform.  Get the feeling he's definitely a Buzz-type of player, and fits the MU culture perfectly.  Thanks in advance for your efforts

Thanks-- this is great..I hadnt seen this here when I posted the same questions on your other thread...so please add anything more...If you'd like--we all apreciate you--sincerely (and I couldnt care if you use periods!)
My questions post on your other thread was:
PHILLY COACH--Please tell us on DJ Newbill:

1) How is his defensive foot work, floor/positional awareness and recovery?
2) Offensively, how is he w/o the ball, first step quickness, patient or forces the action, involved or takes a play or two off?
3) Developmentally, is he teachable, asking for input, help, or fearful, and retreating from critique?
4) Physically, will he sprout, bulk up, or is he injury plagued/prone?
5) Overall, who, as to other players does he remind you of?

Philly HS all time  single game scoring list added DJ Newbill (I've heard of that Wilt Chamberlin guy!):

CITY SINGLE-GAME SCORING

Pts. Name SchoolYear

90 Wilt Chamberlain Overbrook1955

84 Reggie Isaac Bartram1986

74 Wilt Chamberlain Overbrook1955

71 Wilt Chamberlain Overbrook1954

66 Michael Anderson Eng. & Science1984

65 Billy Harris Penn Charter1971

64 Devonte' Newbill Mansion2010

If PhillyCoach is the HS coach of Newbill here is an Identity hint:

..."Gerald Hendricks,  is still Mansion's head coach, however, (Stan) Laws handles day-to-day operations and Hendricks, when present, defers during games. ..."

I mean JC, you cats are incredible. PhillyCoach comes on, gives us insight on a new Warrior and some are just suspicious. When have we ever gotten real info instead of just our amateur opinions? Frickin' Buzz could post here and some of you dudes would wonder what the hell he knows. Hell, show respect and class, incredible.
