Anyone expect any other shoes to drop?
No. I think Noreen is going to UNC after he gets his appeal to the ACC approved. If we don't sign anyone, does a freshman still go the prep school route? Or was that just thrown out there to prevent too many rumors about a player departure.
This may be a dumb question but does a player have to sign in the spring period (ie Today) in order to be eligible to enroll in the summer/fall?
Also I was recently told that we were still looking ot sign one more player so we'll see.
Forgive my ignorance, but at this point if a player didn't sign by now why would he sign at all? Is there any added benefit to signing a LOI vs just a verbal and showing up?
Also, essentially that's what the kids who opt out of prior LOI's are forced to do, correct?
Well if they sign a LOI it is binding on the player and school. A school may want the LOI and/or the player may want it.
If I'm a school, I'd prefer to have one signed as the player can't then simply change his mind over the summer and other schools can't officially have contact and recruit the player.
I am wondering if a transfer may be coming, if we are going to add a player over the summer. No LOI would be signed and probably no announcement until grades come out. I have zero inside info, so I'm just throwing the transfer possibility out there.
It is my understanding that...If a player already signed a NLI with one school, and has since been released, he is not bound by the "signing period." Examples...Noreen, Cain
The name I am interested in is Reggie Murphy. Nothing has been said about him in a long time. I would assume he makes some sort of a decision today.
And then there is the new phenomenon of this "aid agreement" that Brandon Knight recently signed, instead of the NLI. I am not sure if those that sign "aid agreements" instead of an NLI are bound by the signing period either.
Another option is an incoming transfer.
We shall see.

A Jamil Wilson transfer would be pretty nice. And yeah, nothing on Reggie Murphy...don't even know if he is qualified though.
I suppose that another option is a player that Buzz wants to sign and the player wants to come to MU, but grades could be an issue so they will wait until his high school or college (if a transfer) grades are complete. If this is the case, then a high schooler probably won't have grades until mid to late June...?
yous left, what about the prep school idea that we all pretty much agreed on?
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he commits to THE Marquette university this afternoon...around 1pm ct.

Anything is possible, but I think he stays at Oregon. In addition to Crittle, Drew Wiley and Matt Humphrey are also transfering...so there should be a good amount of PT available for Wilson.
remember that PT for wilson doesn't happen until 2011 as a transfer.
although i guess since his coach left he could get excused and play right away...

The PT is there for him at Oregon...that is what I am saying.
then i take back my statement....
he would be THE stud at oregon, I don't see a transfer happening; unless there is something I don't know.
But there are rules roadblocks for ACC schools courting Noreen. ACC Associate Commissioner for Compliance Shane Lyons told the Winston Salem Journal that "even if you get a full release from the national letter-of-intent, you still can't go within the conference to another member institution (and receive financial aid), our rule indicates that if you leave, you lose one year of eligibility."

if he goes to arkansas...what a bummer for him, MR. basketball and has to play for the razorbacks. ugh
We could see something rather big here happening by the end of the day

I understand why the school would want a signed LOI; I don't understand why a player, at this point, would want to sign a binding agreement. I could see plenty of reasons on the players side before now, but what benefit does it provide the player this late in the game?

If it's the last signing day, I'd assume many schools will be filling there final roster spots. There may not be a lot of spots at several schools after today.
Just a guess. I really have no idea.

I agree on Arkansas... of the schools he's visiting, this one really sticks out as an odd choice. MU would be a much more logical fit for the guy with its similarities to BC as an institution.
who in their right mind would want to play basketball at arkansas.
honestly.
What's wrong with Arkansas?
its a bottom feeder of the SEC
granted 1990's Arkansas was a beast!
but i'd say now...they suck. its fair

I doubt that this is the real DJO, but, something about 6' 9" and 250 would be nice!

Not to turn this into a debate on Arkansas with a guy that lives in Wyoming, but it's the other school I follow (for family reasons).
Last year's team was 7-9 in conference (14-18 overall). They also had seven freshmen and no seniors, and were the second least experienced team in D1. So they were young and mediocre.
henrysugar....
I take back my statement about Arkansas and rephrase,
they are a storied team / school
consecutive tournament appearances from 77-01 w/ championship in 94.
My point was however misspoken; poll the average bball fan, Arkansas would not be in their top 30 programs of the past 30 years even though I would venture to guess experts should put them there.
Apologize if it came across as insulting.
thus i would say the average highschool kid wouldn't want to go to Arkansas
Noreen won't be attending Arkansas. Doesn't fit him academically.
Looks like there will be no more moves. Signing period is over. Roster is full. Amen.

I wouldnt be so sure. The end of the signing period really doesnt mean that much.
It ain't over yet.

Why not?
Players dont neccissarly need to sign NLIs (See Brandon Knight, Terrance Jones)...so they arent bound by the signing period.
Also, you can only sign an NLI once. So...if you transfer, you are not bound by the signing period.
If you signed once already, and the coach that signs you leaves/is fired and you are released, you dont sign another one with your new school...again not bound by the signing period.
So when does a player become an official part of the program if they don't sign an NLI? When they are enrolled and the scholarship is applied to their record?
So, if there are other players coming per 4ever, it has to be either a player who has not signed a NLI or a player who has signed a NLI and has been released, or a current player for another program who is transferring? Do I have this right? Timing?
